This drive is annoying. I don't know if it's the controller (Phison E21) or the firmware but it simply doesn't work in some systems. It has terrible TBW even for a QLC drive. It does have a 4K LBA available which most cheap drives can't do but I'm not sure this makes any difference whatsoever considering almost all flash chips can't do anything less than 64K-128K erase blocks.

I don't know why Micron even makes these chips because there are cheaper better drives using higher quality Micron chips. A good price for this drive would be around $40 similar to the $80 cut-rate 2TB deals we have seen.

It's possible this drive is just under-rated. They haven't been around very long. Maybe in real life usage it is much better than it seems and maybe a new firmware can fix the compatibility issues. We will only know with time.

For gaming, invest on the quality of ssd or you will find yourself staring at a black screen wondering where to start the troubleshoot. Websurfing, video etc can wait but gaming… the vibe-kill can give you a perma regret on every compromise u made in life.

I guess you can go this route of an external enclosure that you're probably not going to get the speeds it's meant for even with USBC gen 3.2.

Ha, I'm gaming on an honest-to-goodness hard drive, spinning at 7200rpm. 😃 I play older games and mostly gave up on FPS because I'm an a-hole when I'm playing those competitively. But I have had some stuttering recently, so it's time to upgrade everything even though I'm just playing Fallout 4 right now. This weekend will be some computer maintenance in between the holiday feasting.

This is a useless comment, but 3D NAND Flash memory will always have a real special place in my heart haha. It was the last major project I worked on and got to full production before being laid off from IMFlash. We worked our asses off to get that stuff dialed in. Defectivity was through the roof for a long time! It was so hard to manufacture at scale. It's incredibly sensitive at almost every step hahaha.

can you post/show any other deals in a similar price range to this? i'm looking for an nvme drive 1tb and this is the price range i'm hoping to stay below. thanks in advance

What's the issue with putting this in an external enclosure? I'm looking for a drive for non critical use - data will be backed up to a NAS
