I could be convinced to buy a new miter saw, but I'll pass on this one. In case others are wondering, this saw is not a sliding miter, and it does not have a laser.

Per 🐪🐪🐪, lowest price since 2019. Has gone on sale to this price somewhat frequently, though.

Noob here besides the stand they make for this whats the best option? I'm trying to decide this or buy one that comes with free stand. Can I just safely lay this on a fold out table?

You could but a stand gives you the ability to mount the saw. Furthermore, the pneumatic function of the stand allows you to open and close it with the saw mounted.

You can definitely lay this on a table and use it provided that table is sturdy and not giving you a dangerous work area. I have a piece of plywood that I lay across to sawhorses as a table for mine.

They also make fold up stands that these attached to that look like dollies. This unit says it weighs 43 pounds so if you're going to be moving it a lot, I recommend one of these stands.

So long as you keep in minds lasers can get misaligned but LED shadows of the blade can't Wink

As a weekend warrior doing small home projects this should be plenty for me correct? I do like the idea of a laser

Yes, workhorse of a saw. Don't need slide unless you plan on cutting wide boards. You may never even need the double bevel either. High chance this would fit all your needs

You may like the idea of a laser, but all it really offers you is speed (not accuracy). If you're only using for small projects for yourself, I'd avoid paying extra for a model with a laser (or as someone else mentioned the shadow line model, which is much more useful than a laser but still only offers speed). If you're a professional carpenter, then maybe you want to spring for something to save yourself time, but then you already know what you want to buy anyway Wink

Yes. I use my miter saw a decent amount and I'm still using my very basic Black n Decker model from around 1990. But my next miter saw will definitely be a sliding miter saw. Laser is totally unnecessary but it's a "luxury" add on.

Good deal and good saw, but the Metabo HPT 12" that was posted here a couple of days ago, it's dual bevel for the same price which is much better if you're using your saw frequently. You can make a single bevel work, but have to flip the work piece a lot.

I prefer a sliding saw which is why I have the 779, but for someone who doesn't want/need the slider, this is the saw to get.

Laser lines aren't necessary...they sound like a good idea but any good woodworker should be measuring and aligning to the blade for accuracy.

Also, for those about the dual bevel, unless you have a specific need for it I wouldn't use this as a buying decision. I've only beveled pieces maybe twice in 2 years and could have easily done it with a single bevel. Having a good miter range is a much better feature IMO.
