Walmart has their Everstart brand (made by Johnson Controls) for $60. They last me around 3 years with the harsh winters here.

I stopped buying the brand name lead acid batteries, they're all made by 3 major companies in the USA. Autozone/O'Riley's want more than double for the same battery size/CCA Walmart sells - it makes no sense.

My current battery from Walmart Everlast is 4.5 years old. Zero issues. However, the same exact battery went from $109 to now $149. I will go ahead and buy this now and save $40. Thanks and repped!
Walmart Everlas is much better than Interstate sold at Costco. Everlas made by johnson and it is the same company used to made batteries for Costco which last for a long times comparing to Interstate

Doesn't your EV also have a 12v lead acid battery..?
They all do, EV or not. The poster is either ignorant or just being sarcastic.

Interstate Battery is not good as we think. I had two went wrong within 2years, Lexus and Honda. Never had any battery went bad on me within 3 years. Saw customers came in for exchanged so many times in the last serveral years since Costco switched to this junk brand, I know many of you will trash me . . .
Costco got so many returns on these Mexico made interstates that tree changed there return policy to 36 months flat. You were able to return dead or faulty battery under 36 months and get a new warranty on replacement battery. Now you get a total of 36 months from original purchase. I returned one at 2 years exactly and customer service counter told me a ton of interstates comeback prior to 36 months.

Better car batteries have more lead and will therefore be heavier. My advice is to buy the battery with the lowest price per pound that has at least the CCA rating given in your car's owner's manual, regardless of that battery's brand or warranty length. This might mean you need to find a scale you can use in the store or bring your own (cheap electronic shipping scales work great). Don't rely on the warranty length to tell you which battery is best. You might find that the 2-year warranty battery in your size and the more expensive 3-year warranty battery at a particular store weigh the same, meaning they are the same except for price and warranty. Then look at the date stickers or stamps and get the freshest one. Alternatively, if you have a battery tester that measures internal resistance (available from Amazon for under $20 [amazon.com]), it's even better to select the one with the lowest internal resistance.

If your car requires an AGM battery, get one. If not, it's probably not worth the price difference. Odds are that whatever battery you choose will be made by Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls), Exide, or East Penn. You'll be lucky to get more than 3 or 4 years out of any of them.

Sitting at any level of charge lower than 100% will shorten a lead-acid battery's life. If you make lots of short trips, your car's alternator might not have time to charge your battery to 100%, and it might spend prolonged periods well below 100%. If that's the case, using a smart charger at least once a week to top the battery off at 100% charge can prolong its life.

If you have one of the aforementioned battery testers, test your battery regularly. The tester will give you the battery's state of health as a percentage based on its CCA rating and measured internal resistance. Once the state of health falls below about 80%, the battery will fail the test. This is when it's time to replace the battery to avoid being stranded with a dead battery. You may or may not notice slower cranking at 80% health, but you will soon, probably on a cold day. If the battery is no longer under warranty, I'll usually roll the dice, being the cheapskate I am, and keep using it until I notice significant degradation in performance—but I also carry a jump starter in my trunk. If the battery is under warranty, take it back to the store where you bought it and have them test it. There's a good chance it will fail their test too and they'll replace it under warranty with no argument.

Luckily I have an EV battery that'll last over 10 years
EVs still need a 12 volt lead acid battery to power up accessories, headlights, radio, the car's computer, etc.

Your 10 year warranty drivetrain battery is only for the electric motor/s that move the car.

If your 12 volt lead acid battery dies, your car's computer won't boot up and your car won't move until it gets a jump or have sufficient charge to power up the brains of the EV.

Berkshire Hathaway would prefer you to buy Duracell
I always hate being reminded Berkshire Hathaway owns Duracell. It's one of the few Berkshire Hathaway companies whose products I actively avoid. Even though I realize Duracell is just licensing its name for use on car batteries, it would give me a bad feeling seeing "Duracell" under my hood. vomit

Great battery's last about 8 months in solar array then swap out for new ones make sure to drain your battery s to 20 percent on a regular bases to keep them lead acid plates happy
8 months sounds like a terrible lifespan. Especially for solar. Cheaper to use grid power.

i bought a duracell battery from sams and it lasted 4 years, so it was good for the 36 months warranty. i bought two more for two vehicles that needed new batteries, one of them was only 10 volts but Sam's club replaced it no problem.
compare the warrantly, cca, ca and returns to auto parts store, this battery was cheaper and much more than those auto parts batterys that cost $120

Having been a driver for 20 years, car batteries recently became an unexpected mystery to me. I've never had one die over 4 cars, two of which I still have. no just assumed they always last many many years without ever thinking about them. The mechanic at my recent routine service told me that they expect batteries to last 3-5 years, and mine on this particular car is 5 years old. My other car is 8 years old with the factory battery. No problems with either. I'm in Chicago, so tough winters.

So after all that, do you all really get such short battery life, or are they trying to get me to waste money prematurely? In no other area of life have I ever been known to have what seems to be supernatural luck.

Sam's installs them for free. Costco doesn't.
Getting an Interstate battery for having to take a couple of minutes to install is a no brainer.

But no free install at Costco. Auto services are generally a better deal at sams and Walmart is what I've noticed
A far better battery for just doing a few minutes work is definitely worth it.

Same. My $55 Walmart value 24F is over 3 years old and still going strong (I actually just left the headlights on for almost an hour the other day and no issues starting the Odyssey). The original Honda battery and a Kirkland replacement both died within 3 years (ironically Costco refunded me the price instead of replacing since I was no longer a member but was still within warranty and I bought the Walmart battery as the replacement)

Had one of these last 3 years , but that's not before going through 2 within a warranty period...these are hit or miss. Just returned a Costco battery didn't last a year. Have an aftermarket security system but that has a low draw shouldn't be killing batteries
