This is a pretty good price for the amount of ram and ssd. as well as 4c/8thread performance. It also has two TB ports.

Sad that it has no ram slots. If you want two ram slots for your 2in1, check out the 5300 or 5310 on ebay for not much more or even same price for the 5300 2in1.

I placed an order for a Dell OptiPlex 7060 MFF and have the service tag. Is there anyway to find out the how many and the type of ports it comes with? Thanks!

I know full well that CPUs have been more than fast enough for most people's needs for years now, in addition to Intel chips barely progressing for what felt like an entire decade. Still, in 2023, buying a refurbished laptop (or SFF like in the other deal) with a processor that came out in 2017, just strikes me as a bad idea, no matter the price. I doubt Dell replaced the batteries or reapplied the thermal paste, besides components just naturally failing after this many years
You're spot on regarding the batteries, as this will be the most common issue for these devices. The issue with aging thermal paste is also a potential problem area, though certainly within scope for many of the DIY types attracted to this kind of deal. There should be no doubt that neither of these issues would fall into the scope of the refurbishment specifications Dell sets for these enterprise laptops.

However, even accounting for the age of these CPUs I think you'll agree that the raw horsepower of most 4-core i-series CPUs has remained sufficient for basic productivity. Heck, I still see plenty of new computers selling for more on slickdeals with less horsepower than the CPU platform in this deal (the two-core i3-1115G4 comes to mind, not to mention all the Atom-based laptop deals).

Personally, something like these 8th generation CPUs -with their Windows 11 support and relative horsepower for productivity tasks - are well within something I wouldn't be embarrassed to recommend to the grandma/kids-crowd (I personally have bought two over two different sales for just that). In contrast, while 7th generation and older 4-core i-series designs might be more than functional for Windows 10 I tend to leave them for either the pros (many of whom won't even use them for Windows-based applications) or for the most hard-core of deal seekers (is a $100 device with solid Windows 10 productivity capabilities really a terrible waste of cash if it has almost three more years of support left?).

Good luck!
Jon

FYI an interesting thing about this model is that the WWAN slot can be used as a 2nd m2/nvme ssd slot (the shorter 2230 length though)
Thanks. Can you recommend a good brand for this? I'm looking for 512gb and not seeing many good brands.

Could you go into detail here? Mine has a rough battery.. it will go from ~60% to dead with any load put on it.

There's alot of info in this thread : https://slickdeals.net/f/16071211-dell-latitude-7390-or-7390-2-in-1-refurbished-starts-from-199-50-at-dell-refurbished

But, basically.. sounds you received a pretty crappy battery, ( like a lot of us from the previous deal ) and need to reach out to Dell Support and request a replacement..
When I got mine, and checked the battery health ( see above posted thread's WIKI ) .. here is what I found:

Full Charge Capacity ( powershell ) 32,931 mWh
Design Capacity 60,002 mWh

Contacted Dell support with that info, and they ordered me a replacement battery that I received thru Fedex in about a week or less ( can't recall )

I did not have to return the old battery ( no instructions or email indicating a process to do so ) so I still have it lol..

The replacement wasn't brand new, and had ~ 6 % wear which is miles better than the original!

Thanks! I did contact them this morning and I was surprised at how painless it was.

There really aren't a LOT of players in the 2230 space in retail. One of the most commonly available options (e.g. at a local Micro Center [microcenter.com]) is functional but won't exactly set any land speed records [tomshardware.com]. Of course, that isn't to say there aren't a lot of options out there from Kingston, Samsung, Kioxia, SK Hynix and others but you're often stuck having to trust the seller as to the legitimacy of the device. Personally I'd stick to something from Inland or Sabrent [amazon.com] sold and shipped directly by a retailer like Micro Center or Amazon (so avoiding 3rd party sales in the case of Amazon). Assuming that you're just seeking some storage space these should be more than acceptable, if not the most cost-effective solutions.

Be advised that part of the downside to the limited options is going to include little to no support, so none of the easy software tools you might associated with a retail Samsung device (for example).

Good luck!

don't worry about missing out on these 7390 deal. As I said, the 5300 and 5310 are better laptops.. The only thing bad about the ebay stuffs is that you are not able to request a battery from dell, but the return process is much easier on ebay Wink

Hello, going through a check list I found in slickdeals for the 7390 , one of the the action is for the fingerprint reader. " Make sure to go to dell support site and manually download the latest controlvault driver for the fingerprint to work correctly. Windows update and dell command update did not install the latest driver on mine."
I don't see any finger print reader on my 7390 Touch (not the 2 in 1). Can someone who order and receive one confirm if they are missing the fingerprint reader too?

i did not have the fingerprint reader on any of the three 7390 touch laptops (non2in1) that i got either.

If it's not too late, i recommend you return your 7390 back to dell and look on ebay for the 5300 series. They have two sodimm slots instead of just one in the 7390, allowing for much better ram upgrade options. It is also much easier to retrofit a fingerprint reader on the 5300 as the fingerprint reader is part of an easily replaceable power button. you do need the USH controlvault module also. The 5300 fingerprint reader button is $6. the USH module is about $10.

Had i knew about the 5300 before, i would NOT get the 7390 at all!!! Now i am trying to get rid of the three 7390 laptops i got at a small loss. I might even get rid of the 7390 2in1 also.... the 5300 2in1 are so much better because they also have the two sodimm slots!

5300 and even 5310 can be had for less than $240 on ebay!
