It's better to use literally nothing than to pay for citronella products.

DEET is safe in the levels used in consumer products, but those who have irrational fears can consider picaridin repellents as the alternative for application, as well as area-based solutions that use cartridge dispersing fans.

Those are the only effective options besides covering up.

Not even worth this price in the middle of summer. Pretty small, and mostly ineffective.

Reminder that studies have shown there is no evidence citronella actually works as a repellent. Actual bug repellent products are effective, however.

Is the scent any good at least?

Kind of like when you spray air freshener after a poo. You can smell the air freshener, but you can still smell the poo. If you are adverse to the smell of citronella, this will only give you slight relief. Not sure on this, but isn't it the smell of the citronella that is supposed to keep the bugs away?

Anyway, totally off topic now:

Looks like you have been around here for a while!

These are tiny. You literally will need to light them all make a barrier for it to be effective.

I think the key there is that candles that produce smoke act as a deterrent so maybe don't pay a premium for citronella. At least that's how I read it. I'm normally a big fan of wirecutter but this article feels a bit off to me, especially about the part where mosquito traps are ineffective. If the idea is to run a trap only when you're outside in an attempt to distract the mosquitos from you then maybe this makes sense but who realistically does that? Mosquito traps work by running them constantly and they absolutely do cut down on total population numbers. It's weird that they might be trying to steer people away from something that could help control the total number of mosquitoes they encounter when they do go outside just because it won't act as a DEET level deterrent.

All that aside, this is tiny. I definitely wouldn't buy this.

I actually like the piney/citrusey scent of these. Yes you'd need lots of them to be effective outdoors. Scent and wood crackly wick is enough for me
