"Geek squad certified" is about as comforting as someone saying "trust me, I work for the government"

This can fit in desktop computers just as easily as laptops, provided they have the NVME slot.

Good deal. I'd take a chance on this if I needed it. Geek squad cert SSD's just customer returns they have blanked and passed Samsung diag utility. My experience is with their 2.5" sata's but almost all were very low usage.

These are absolutely fine. They're open box, typically less than 100 hour of on time and less than 200GBs written to them. I've bought a dozen or so and never had an issue. These are still covered by the remaining factory warranty so if you have a problem you're covered.

Is there a way to test a used ssd to find out how much it has been used?

Be careful of geek squad certified hard drives, some of them are actually cheaper ssds with labels replaced. Ex. 256g Ssd with a 2T label. They definitely don't actually check the ssds from returns or there are some kind of insider jobs.

Crystal Disk Info will show you a general "disk health remaining" percentage, as well as more specific stats like power on hours, power on count, and total GB written to the disk. The screen looks something like this:

Samsung has their own SSD diagnostic/optimizer app too, called Magician.

I get the joke about Geek Squad and all but the dislike/distrust of refurbs is getting out of hand. And I don't deny in any way people have had terrible experiences that have turned them completely off refurbs.

It's cool if you don't like refurbished components, or certain types of them. But many of us are here to save money and refurbs are a great way to do so along with used from trusted locations/vendors.

I don't think I've ever owned a new Dell product but I've had so many and never had a problem of any kind. I've only had an issue once and that was a Logitech Master mouse that stopped connecting after ~18 months. But I put that more on the company not being what it was back in the day.

You generally get enough of a warranty to find out if the product is defective or in terrible condition.

Not to mention the refurbs that have to adhere to stricter QA/QC standards than regular production to make sure it's not returned again becoming a complete loss in revenue.

So many fxxking morons return SSD to Bestbuy? what are they not satisfied with those SSD?
I guess 10% GDP of US is wasted on return items. Go to any UPS store, 95% boxes there are returns.
Ppl can return computers, printers, TVs, SSDs, why ppl can not return cars, houses, if return is right of customers, or you can not just return high value item (but you can return 10x 20x computers, it is a lot of money too)?

Geek Squad Certified Refurbished means they did clean it with cleaning wipes, but nothing more and nothing less.
GS are a heap of idiots, nothing more and nothing less.
I read some reviews on Bestbuy of Geek Squad Certified Refurbished DJI drones, they idiots don't even know (actually they don't care) the previous user account must be removed from the drones, otherwise nobody can use it.

Well with houses there is a long process with inspections and contracts so by the time you buy it you have had the chance to go over exactly what you're getting for a while.

While cars have test drives and lemon laws.

Be nice if we could take a GPU for a spin before dropping a grand. That would cause a trainwreck worse than miners though as cards are constantly held up as people look to hit the silicon lottery.
