found a concern for this product. The wall mount portion is exactly 16 inches wide. You probably cannot mount to 24 inch interior walls. Also, if you want to mount left or right of 16 inch studs locations when retracted, you cant. The whole point of the various slots for mounting on the top and bottom are so you can go left or right, doesn't do any good when it is exactly 16 inches wide. They do make an extension for 24 inch, but its $40 which is more than this entire mount. Also, the last mount I put up was 36 inches wide which allowed me to put the tv wherever when 24 inch studs and use 16 or 32 inch spacing for 2x16 inch when retracted and still get 4 screws in studs. You definitely want 4 screws in studs tor anything over 65 inches especially when it moves and when extended. The tv can probably slide left or right on the mount if less than 85, but this would make the mount even more unstable.
Unless you have a television on the much heavier side, getting 2 screws into a stud and using 2 drywall anchors should be fine.
I've used a method for attaching things to the wall that involves mounting a plate of 3/4" or 5/8" plywood securely to the wall through the studs, and then mounting whatever I'm mounting into that to plywood plate with the appropriate number and size of screws.

It doesn't necessarily work with all decor, but I find that it's a way to get something placed on a wall when your desired mounting location is not in alignment with the location of the studs.

Now I haven't tried it with a TV mount, but I have used it to hang a fingerboard for rock climbing training, and there was no problem of it supporting my full weight (140 lbs) doing pull-ups, etc.

Just a thought.

This. The design is to ensure the mount gets attached into at least one wall stud, twice, meaning a higher and lower attachment point into one stud. The other wall anchors help it from twisting and probably don't hurt but the vast majority of the support (read: 99%) comes from those two contact points into the one wall stud. Using lag bolts is spec'd vs just about any type of "screw".

I meant lagbolts, but yes. One upper and lower into the stud will suffice. Would take a tremendous amount of force to pull those out.
