I use a thing like this https://www.amazon.com/DozyAnt-Un...ljaz10cnVl and refill my bottles outside for savings.
It's not for everyone, the safety patrol will be here any minute to wring their hands about people doing this and being unsafe. Housecat type guys might want to just buy the propane bottles at Target and have a frappe.

Thanks. Didn't catch that. Canceled order.
These are just a couple, very easy to find the mishaps of refilling.
Flame king / Manchester does have refillable bottles, they use to be cheap, not any more unless you find them on clearance.
Becarefull refilling 1lbs bottles. [northwestgeorgianews.com]

Plenty more via simple search.
Again, they can be refilled, just be very cautious of the risk and take some time to research it so you know how much fuel to put in the tank and at what temperature and what the tank should weigh when it's nearly full.
I purchased the big buddy a couple years ago from northern tool, brand new out the door for $80 after coupon discount. While I like the dual 1lb tank option, I find I use the hose with 5-11 pound tanks most of the time when on the ice, fishing
Also for the worriers, Wear gloves, I've frozen skin pretty quick when I got a little over flow on my finger. But lesson learned and back in business in no time.
Pro Level refillers :get the little hemostat pliers and open the check value to let more propane in when you are filling the bottles. I do all of this outside on a picnic table. Don't do it inside unless you want to be a crispy critter like the Coffee Shop Gal from above.

Some people use paint trays and other hacks to cook on top of the normal heaters, but while it's possible... it's going to be a mess for almost anything you'd cook..
