this is LAPTOP memory, I almost fall into itm
He said it was mind-blowing and that the ram shouldn't make that much of a difference.
I put some dual rank Corsair dominator ram in my GF's g15 ae and got the same results.
It's a big deal. Linus swapped the memory between a 6800m g15 are and a Intel/3080 laptop and got over a 20 percent performance increase, with the 6800m consistently beating the 3080 by a large margin in almost every single game they benchmarked after the ram exchange.
I wouldn't recommend single rank memory to anyone for anything gaming related.

I have ryzen and the 3800Mhz CAS 22 performs better than 3200mhz CAS 18 dual rank by Timetec that i returned alread. From what i read it has to do with increased bandwidth mattering more for ryzen.
About 20 percent in 1 percent lows and general fps in games but will show slightly worse performance in most synthetic benchmarks then single rank ram.
For some reason those benchmarks are very bandwidth dependant and also do better better with single rank ram for some reason but real world game results are the complete opposite for almost all games.
Also, AMD laptop CPU's will generally only run at 3200 cl22, there might be some jdec cl20 but I'm not sure about that. Ryzen laptop CPU's will only run at the standard jdec profile and are not overclockable or compatible with xmp.
Dual rank Jdec cl22 or cl20 if you can find it absolutely will give you the best game performance you can get.
Linus showed a g15 ae with a 6800m and Ryzen CPU consistently beating a Intel/3080 laptop after he exchanged the ram between the 2 laptops.
And it was just standard oem dual rank cl22 3200 ram vs single rank cl22 3200.
It was a 20 percent difference in game fps and 1 percent lows.
Oh, yeah meant desktop

Btw was he comparing 1Rx16 vs 1Rx8 that could make a big diff.

He basically hamstrings the dual rank to single mode, so that it's a more "fair" comparation. That's really stupid and ridiculous. You still might get a small performance increase on the reads for certain types of files from the smaller 1Rx8 but it needs to be set to 2Rx8 for the controller to actually take advantage of it, that's the whole point of using dual rank to begin with.
Video should be titled, "after I horribly gimp this memory from 2Rx8 which is equal to 1Rx16 down to 1Rx8 IT'S STILL FASTER in games."

But I'm running it in a Deskmini X300, so I can't be sure.
