Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

This exactly. Just because it doesn't suit one person or it was pressured by salesperson at the dealership, it doesn't mean that it is bs. You have to do your own research and assess whether it is for you or not.
Any general guidelines (and then people can search after if it's a good fit for them) on when it's a good idea and when it's not so much?

In general, if you put little to no money down or you finance for long periods, then you should get it. Make sure you shop around as your lender or your auto insurance may have lower GAP insurance than your traditional stealership.

Here is an article that covers a lot. https://www.investopedia.com/arti...urance.asp

A key point IMO is also the higher likelihood of a Tesla being declared a total loss by an insurance company during an accident and, in that case, what return you get from them for something like the FSD $15k purchase.

* Made less than a 20 percent down payment
* Financed for 60 months or longer
* Leased the vehicle, and gap insurance is required for a lease
* Purchased a vehicle that depreciates quickly
* Rolled over negative equity from an old car loan into the new loan

Is GAP protection advisable or a waste? Looks like ARMCO is offering it for $265 on a $53k loan. I thought these policies were way more expensive? My only reference point is my brother who paid $900 for GAP against a $34k loan on a Ford Mustang back in 2018.
GAP is a bet that you will total the car, and the payout is just the gap in the value between what you owe and what the car is worth. Most of the time, this is a terrible bet. Like so bad that I'm surprised consumer protection groups haven't gone to war over it.

I wouldn't bring this up directly to your brother, because that money is long gone, but I'll bet his was one of the typical bad ones. In his case, assuming he put $0 down and did a 72 month loan, he might have been $6k underwater most of year 1, $3k underwater most of year 2, and pretty close to even by the end of year 3. A shorter loan or down payment would make the payouts worse.

So he was betting $900 that he would total the car in 3 years, and he would have "won" something between $0 and $6k if he was successful in that endeavor.

In this case, $265 is a lot more reasonable and the Teslas are reportedly more likely to be totaled than other makes, but the question is still going to be a balance between your estimated odds of totaling the car vs. the gap between the car's value and the loan amount.

For starters, with a $53k loan, you must have already put down taxes and license. I'll bet the actual value of the car is close to $50k, and will decrease more slowly than the loan balance. So you're probably looking at a $3-5k payout month one that's crawling down by a couple hundred bucks every month, probably reaching zero by month 24.

Do you think you have a 10+% chance of totaling the car? And if not, would the $1-5k be more money than you can afford to lose?

Just noticed that my MYLR 5 did not come with the rubber cover for the acceleration pedal. The brake pedal has the cover. Is it standard with MY or I am plain luck and got the special unit? 😁

Picked up my MYLR 5 Base from Springfield, NJ Yesterday
Smooth process - SA tells you car is outside and unlocks the doors
There is a clipboard with your name on dashboard of car
Check out car for as many hours as you want and then sign the paperwork on clipboard and hand it inside and on your merry way
Overall great quality, less noise than my Acura and Honda Accords, drove at 85mph and no noise/shaking/vibration/pulling
Noticed small panel issues(my Acura RDX had more panel issues)and left headlight slightly bulging out(in millimeters). I never checked or noticed this stuff in previous cars, only after reading this thread I was looking for smallest of imperfections. Created service request and pending confirmation

Good luck to everyone

btw, while I am waiting for Electrician to install 240v outlet, I used Tesla mobile connector with regular 110 outlet and charged overnight to 80%(13Kwh) not bad in case of emergency
thats great. I have the base configuration and I am in NJ as well. My EDD got pushed back to 04/26 - 06/06

What was your order date.
