It's true. but if you use a sub and can get away with crossing it over at 100hz you'll be good to go.
I did some in room compression testing and they did fine up to my listening levels and a little past it.
This speaker is a bit more difficult than the ls50, where ls50 just lops its own bass off, this q150 actually has the extension, but it gives you bass WITH the distortion.
So if we wanted to get best performance out of the q150, we'd need a system which actively crosses over, making the setup more complicated.
Andrew jones kind of fixed this issue by using coaxial and a woofer for bass in the uni-fi , but for whatever reason there's weird resonances in those boxs.

I bought the KEF Q150, with Walnut veneer, in December 2020 for $299, the same price as now. It's superb. It has amazing sound quality for the money and probably the best bookshelf speakers you can get at this price.
I have it hooked up to a small class-D amplifier (SMSL AD18); nothing fancy; the amplifier could be better and I wish I had a second TEAC integrated amplifier like I do on another set of speakers. It sounds great.
Speakers have gotten so much better in the last 20 years; I'm not an audiophile but have a little musical background; I think I notice when sound quality or an album's mixing is good/bad/harsh/bland.
At $299 I would buy these again in an instant if I were to lose mine somehow.

Same. Highly recommended. Just buy these and try them if you're on the fence. I picked up my pair in November and am SO IMPRESSED with their sound.
I bought these in November and compared them to a few options for my home theater. I love the look of them, and have always thought KEFs looked unique. They do sound really good. You can use one on its side for a center with good dispersion. My only add on would be either use these in a small room or make sure they are crossed over at 80Hz or so and use a sub. The woofer is mechanically limited at higher volumes, especially playing full range.
I've been quite happy with the paid I bought a couple of years ago for the same price (they do seem to offer this deal a few times a year). I have them paired with a small B&W sub.
These speakers don't include grilles, in case you might want to add them.
Best buy had the same price, I got the walnut color with next day delivery (they'll be here tomorrow). These are my first speakers ever and I'll be running them with that aiyima amp that was on the front page the other day. Finding my Chromecast audio prompted me to do this lol
I have a pair of these in white for my nearfield desktop setup. They sound pretty good especially for the price.
As others have mentioned, push them too loud and you'll get some bass distortion, and be mindful about amp pairing as they have an uptick in the high frequencies. I did not like these speakers paired with a widely regarded sub $200 Class D amp, but they are fantastic with either my 4.5watt tube amp, or my 30 watt class AB SS amp.
