60K - 110K American Airline Points | $0-2500 spend | $0 annual fee for year 1

60k points - AAdvantage World Elite Mastercard from Barclays. Just for opening the card, and making a single purchase, you will earn 60,000 American Airlines miles. The card's $99 annual fee is even waived in your first year of card membership.

https://www.applyaviator.com

50K points - This card currently has a welcome offer bonus to earn 50,000 AAdvantage Miles after spending $2,500 within the three months of card membership. And the card's $99 annual fee is also waived for the first year of card membership.

https://citicards.citi.com/usc/LP...index.html

Put these two cards together, and spend just $2,500 on the other (the Citi Platinum Select World Elite card) in the first three months. Bam: You've got 110,000 American Airlines miles. All without paying an annual fee in your first year.

That's an easier (and cheaper) path to pile up more than 100,000 miles than you'll find with almost any other airline. Of course, it requires opening two credit cards and responsibly meeting the minimum spending requirement

Got it. Thanks. Do the points get removed if you close your account?
Will they take back the 60k points (if unused) when you close your card before paying the annual fee?

I guess there is no option to downgrade the account like the chase United Explorer - where you can downgrade to the Basic Gateway card without the annual fee.
Nope, once your points is posted to your acct., it's yours to keep. When you call to cancel your card citing the annual fee too high or for whatever, depending on that CS rep, he/she might offer you another card w/no annual fee or just close your acct. per your request.

You can use the American Airlines Shopping portal to earn a few points and that allows you to reset the miles expiration date. Not many people realize that you can do that.
So can I get expired miles back without buying it back or applying for this card.. any idea.. 45k miles expired last oct

AA is a mixed bag. being in Dallas its a good thing but not for everyone. DFW is the hub for AA so we get direct flights to europe etc.
I haven't tried int'l flights from DFW (I don't live there), but my experience with domestic flights to/from Dallas hasn't been great when shopping with AA points because of the price tiering. I still have points after a long time because it's typically been better value to fly from where I am in Seattle to Dallas to visit family using Chase points with my CSR. For example, if some flight I can just pay $400 raw cash or the equivalent in points systems that provide 1:1 cent per point, the same flight will often be 50K AA points + the fee - worse than 1:1 ratio. I have had a similar experience with looking at flights from Seattle to other destinations in the contiguous 48 states.

Looking at a random date in April, it's 25K points + $11.20 in fees, whereas I can get a flight on Alaska for $254 in cash. Not too bad, though with another good points system, like Chase with a Sapphire Reserve, that comes out to 16.9K points. With Sapphire Preferred it only goes up to 20.3K. So maybe if you are flying during off-peak times or going to particular location with a good deal it works out, but my experience just doesn't give me much confidence without having to hunt or fly on inconvenient days. Of course, CSR is expensive ($550 per year), so it's not a perfect comparison, though a lot of the benefits you get from that card can effectively bring that annual fee down to almost $0.

That's just my 2c for anyone considering doing this who fly domestically between specific destinations a lot. Maybe check what the points values are like for your preferred destinations and compare that to actual flight prices.

Although I think AA miles have been devalued due to dynamic pricing, I think you can still find value there. I'm a budget traveler so I don't go for business class. Was able to book 2 RT tickets on economy to Italy for this fall for 119K miles. Not too shabby. Probably saves me around $1500-2000 since they are nonstop direct flights.

Can you get the free checked luggage with this card for a flight that was booked before you open the card?

No, you cannot get expired points/miles back. Need to shop b4 expiration date at aadvantageeshopping.com or make a mile donation to keep the acct. going.

Yes, but it isn't enforced. You can google it to see others getting the offer multiple times.
I think this is my 3rd time getting the personal card, and 2nd time getting the business card. Last bonus posted 2 months ago.

Repped for sharing the excellent info.

MileSAAver/AAnytime was where the true value was with AAdvantage miles. Without that, it's not even getting them unless you just have points to burn.

I cancel them after 1 year so I don't have to pay the annual fee. I don't think you can have multiples of the same card

I use my points for JAL business class tickets. Saves me thousands of dollars
JAL availability is much better than other Asian partner airlines. Def worth it for this.

This is what I get for being a loyal American airlines card member.

Whatever, after you use these bonuses the card is fairly useless when it comes to point accrual.
