Very good deal. This is same as the adult paperwhite plus a free case and with a 2 year warranty. And you can go into settings and log out of the kids profile and instead log in to the adults profile.

This is the best way to get a paperwhite. You can just get a plain black case (although some of the kid ones aren't overly kiddie) and you can turn off all the kid stuff and boom, you've got a regular paperwhite.

One recommendation I will make for anyone considering one of this is this.

If you're buying it for an adult, who will read mostly novels that aren't heavy on photos then the 8GB version will be fine, which will hold over a thousand books. If at any time you run out of room, you can always remove them from the device and download them again later for free if you bought them from Amazon.

However, if you are buying this for a kid, then I would recommend the 16GB version. Many kids like to read graphic novels, such as Dogman, Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, etc. These books aren't text-based so to make them work on a Kindle, the books are basically photos of each page, which works fine in most cases (sometimes the text can be a little small to read), but the point is that these books can be 200-300MB each, which means that the device may only be able to hold about 25 of these types of books.

TLDR; for a kid get the 16GB, otherwise 8GB should be plenty!

I have regular Kindle Paperwhite, and it's so easy to buy ebooks. It takes no physical space to hoarder ebooks, and ebooks are often cheaper than physical books. I think you have to buy as "gift" if you are buying Paperwhite as gift. Otherwise, it will link yo your Amazon account. That's what happened to my husband when he bought it as Christmas gift to me. But the deal also included free 3 months of Kindle Unlimited subscription, so it may be different with this deal (?) Just heads up.

I've been wanting to get my mom a new kindle. Is it worth getting this older paperwhite over the newer 2022 regular editions?

Nice!
Got one.

With trade in discount of 20% and additional 10 dollar of trade in for old Voyage which runs super slow my net cost after tax came to 86ish.

Yes. Paperwhite has the following that you don't get on a standard Kindle: larger display with flush front, waterproof, and better front lighting with adjustable color temperature.

I just picked up one of these from woot for $35, Kindle (2019 release) With a Built-in Front Light - Black, would it be worth the 20% trade in and $20 gift card for this? It would be $96, is this worth that much of an upgrade? I'm just getting into the e-readers

Well, I think it's worth it (see my post above). But if you're just getting into e-reading, maybe try what you have first. These Paperwhite deals come around pretty frequently, so there's no rush to upgrade.

I don't think so. I'd just stick with what you have.

Best part of buying kids version is the 2 year warranty that covers breaking due to rough use.

I believe Amazon discontinued support of MOBI files last year in favor of the EPUB standard. Kindle accounts come with their own email address. Compatible files sent to this address will load to your Kindle. You can also connect a Kindle to a computer via usb and load that way.

There are numerous MOBI to EPUB converters available if you need them.
