I'd recommend waiting if you can. New Oled monitors were announced by different brands and these older ones will definitely drop by a lot more. I'm actually returning my Neo G9 I got for BF from Amazon and waiting on the new ones they announced last month.

I bought this back when they first released. Gaming looks great but the desktop text clarity does bother me some. I was using a 1440p 165hz HP Omen 27i before and it was much sharper/clear for text compared to this. As others mentioned, it's not bad but it is noticeable and kind of a bummer considering this monitor cost more than 2x as much as my previous one (since I bought my previous one brand new when it released too).

The minor annoyance aside - the thing that does greatly bother me is the coil whine. It ... is ... IRRITATING. Sometimes I can calm it down some by enabling/disabling the monitor's built-in lighting effects. For mine it gets louder when there is less image being lit up by the pixels. Screens that are predominantly black... higher coil whine sound. I pretty much have to wear my headphones to help me ignore it.

Unreal I bought this last month and am ONE day out of Dell's 30-day price guarantee. For anyone else this is really good deal on an excellent OLED gaming monitor, emphasis on gaming monitor as this is NOT a great daily driver for desktop work.

I was disappointed by 2023's oled's. The only comparable ones are Samsungs g8 OLED and MSI's. Unless you want a massive 45-49 monitor. Man I wish there was a 38" version but that's not coming anytime soon.

I'm going to try this out. I got cap shopping cash back to give me 20% from dell.
Yeah I'm actually waiting on the g9 57" lol. You know Costco has a fantastic 38" LG that's nano IPS and I can't rave enough about it. I had it for 3 months and decided I wanted bigger. But the colors are simply amazingly vivid and rich.

Amex offer expired a few days before this sale. I ultimately decided to pass on this due to the problems people have over at reddit and it's subpar text performance. I'm waiting for ultrawide OLEDs to mature a bit before taking the plunge.
My business plat has 10 percent until 3/31 and also all chase cards have 5% back on both personal and non personal ones and I still have not used the 200 credit either, also have some gift cards from previous deal too

There was an "Amex Offer" (ones available for lesser Amex cars) for 120 off 599; it expired 1/15.

Can you please shed some more light about its unsuitability for work tasks? I tend to use my PCs for work and gaming. Lots of spreadsheet type work.
Sure, mentioned above is the fringing issue which is inherent to the panel design and while you can tweak around with font scaling and such, it can't be eliminated entirely and sure to some it's not a big deal and hell I'm one of those people myself but there are times when I see it more than others and at those times ya, don't like it.
Perhaps more impactful than that though and exacerbating the fringing issue is the pixel density...it just isn't ideal on a panel this size. PERFECT for gaming of course; not ideal for desktop work. Basically 1440p is perfect pixel density on a 27' display IMO but any larger and you really start seeing those pixels and in this case it amplifies the fringing.
All that said, in no way is this monitor incapable of being a daily driver for everything...just saying if you really need that emphasis on desktop clarity this isn't your best choice. This monitor is all about HDR content and gaming.

EDIT - might as well complete my mini-review since I've gone this far. You're limited a bit on the HDMI side (2.0 instead of 2.1) so expect to use DP. Firmware is upgradeable unlike the DW model. Do NOT turn the power off every time you're done using it, panel management relies entirely upon the monitor being in standby mode. There is no polarization filter so bright rooms will easily wash out your black levels. Personally I've never heard the fan at all much less coil whine so would say total non-issue compared to the DW. HDR1000 is pretty much broken until they fix it via firmware at some point.
All that said I'm perfectly happy with it as desktop work is 'fine' while gaming is just an absolute treat.

FYI - as an ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor, the pixel density is the same as a standard 27" 1440p monitor. You just have extra area on the left and right, but with extra pixels and thus the same density. I think you're perceiving the increased "fuzziness" that comes with the text fringing as a lower ppi.

Text fringing is the biggest problem and an exercise in personal tolerance. Some people will not notice it, some will see it but tolerate it, and some will hate it. Personally, I strongly dislike it and it is a kind of deal breaker since I work from home 40+ hours a week.

The color, contrast, viewing angle, black level performance, and HDR are OUTSTANDING on qd-oled monitors. Literally light years better than regular monitors and a big improvement over mini LED backlit displays (but mini LED back lit displays do not have text fringing issues).

Finally, burn-in IS still a potential problem with qd-oled. The model on display at Microcenter definitely had a little burn-in visible in the lower right corner, where there must be a white text box most of the day. The task bar did not appear to be burned in (yet) though, and they probably have that monitor on 12+ hours a day. There monitor has probably been on display since December or January. If you mostly game, avoid long periods of static content, and use standard mitigation options, you can probably avoid burn-in. I have seen some reports of burn-in for these monitors start to appear on reddit though.

I purchased the non-F version of this monitor with the G-Sync module last month. Best picture/image quality, even better than my LG OLED TV's. Only issue I have so far was a bit of text fringing (since QD-OLED uses a unique subpixel layout, Windows needs to implement a fix). There are some fixes if you search reddit threads and use MacType which helps some. I also have a bit temporary blurry vision when looking at the screen for too long. I have to tone down the brightness and it's a bit better now.

If you have some burn-in, Dell has a 3-year warranty so you can get it replaced. So far, I have my monitor to turn off automatically after 5 minutes of non-usage, auto-hide the taskbar, and have pixel shifting on.

YES good clarification thank you. So same pixel density but at this SIZE (34" 3440x1440) the pixels are more visible. On a 27" display (2560x1440) it simply looks cleaner and crisper because it's more compact but on my 2 32" 1440p monitors it's basically just like this Alienware, 'it's okay'.

$1100 is considered a good value for this monitor?

Guess I don't understand how, especially considering the 42" LC C2 could be had for as low as $700 a couple months ago.

So is this really worth $300-$400 premium over the 42" LG?

This is so tempting. I have the aw3418dw and it's great, but I also know how beautiful the qd-oled's are. Life changing decisions.
The Samsung neo OLED HDR aggressively curved 49inch monitor is coming out in a couple months.... That's what I'm getting, if nothing else, it should lead to a price reduction on this one.

My friend has the g9... It's show stopping in a good way. It's not overwhelmingly big, surprisingly comfortable to use and the curve is perfect on it.

I was gonna get the g9 neo or this and just couldn't decide.... But fingers crossed, I think the OLED version is gonna be my end all be all dream monitor that I will keep for a very long time.

MSRP for the G8 OLED is $1,500 and won't be out until March. Crazy how high LG shot with the price after delaying the release 6 months in the US. BTW I got the March date from B&H who later pulled the page down.

Oh my, 1500. I thought it will be 1200 in US. I know Samsung always has insane discount around BF, plus cash backs 700-800 should be the sweet spot for me. I will wait a bit more then, its triangle RGB led make font blurry anyway.

Thanks for your information.

At the end of the day, it is highly depend on your setup. 42" is still TV sized, which has a minimum recommended viewing distance. This distance is higher notably than a 34" ultrawide. A monitor is going to be superior in most standard desk configurations. A 42" is probably great for sim setups where the accessories are huge and often hangs off the desk, forcing you to set back way further than typical (such as steering wheel or flight yoke).
