The minor annoyance aside - the thing that does greatly bother me is the coil whine. It ... is ... IRRITATING. Sometimes I can calm it down some by enabling/disabling the monitor's built-in lighting effects. For mine it gets louder when there is less image being lit up by the pixels. Screens that are predominantly black... higher coil whine sound. I pretty much have to wear my headphones to help me ignore it.

Perhaps more impactful than that though and exacerbating the fringing issue is the pixel density...it just isn't ideal on a panel this size. PERFECT for gaming of course; not ideal for desktop work. Basically 1440p is perfect pixel density on a 27' display IMO but any larger and you really start seeing those pixels and in this case it amplifies the fringing.
All that said, in no way is this monitor incapable of being a daily driver for everything...just saying if you really need that emphasis on desktop clarity this isn't your best choice. This monitor is all about HDR content and gaming.
EDIT - might as well complete my mini-review since I've gone this far. You're limited a bit on the HDMI side (2.0 instead of 2.1) so expect to use DP. Firmware is upgradeable unlike the DW model. Do NOT turn the power off every time you're done using it, panel management relies entirely upon the monitor being in standby mode. There is no polarization filter so bright rooms will easily wash out your black levels. Personally I've never heard the fan at all much less coil whine so would say total non-issue compared to the DW. HDR1000 is pretty much broken until they fix it via firmware at some point.
All that said I'm perfectly happy with it as desktop work is 'fine' while gaming is just an absolute treat.

Happens to the best of us sometimes, the mind is a powerful thing.
The pixel density for the wide resolution at this size is the same as a 27 inch 1440p monitor.
You are right about the other issues tho.

Just like there are no laptops that actually have real gsync.
Good news is that freesync and Nvidia's version of freesync, "gsync compatible" is pretty decent.
Like you can easily just hold it with the screen facing the ceiling and walk around with it, partially and again because of the curve.
It's really frustrating to find and get a clear answer, but every newer freesync monitor should be gsync compatible and automatically use some sort of adaptive sync even if it's not gsync compatible but it's been hard to get official confirmation on that 🤷
Is the text issue really a deal breaker?

I returned the 38" Alienware from the deal the other week, it's not enough of an upgrade for me from my Acer Predator x34" panel. Especially when I use my s95b and know what OLED is capable of....thought i'd gamble on the dwf and see how bad the text really is.
If it's not a good fit i'll send it back and try one of the models at CES or just do what I should, which is wait for a 4k QD OLED panel. I'll update the thread with my thoughts but like I said, this is going to something that bothers you or it doesn't.

It's worse than 91 PPI, 1080p IPS monitors from the 2010s. The DWF model is also less brighter than the DW model.
Absolutely wonderful for gaming though
