What about money? Is money not a valid reason in your book? If so, can you lend me the extra $2500 to get an 83" OLED? I'll take itunes gift cards in lieu of cash. I won't complain about it actually being a couple inches smaller.

When deciding between this TV and the 86" LG deals, one of the biggest differences is panel type. The LG's use an IPS panel which provides a better viewing angle, but at the cost of contrast ratio. Samsung 85" Crystal models typically use a VA panel which has the opposite characteristics. I suspect the TU690T to be no different.

That's like saying "there's no reason to get a car that's not a Ferrari or Bentley unless you're only looking for a way to get around town and don't care about how you look". That makes sense right?? Not every consumer has an extra $4-5K for an 85" TV and will be completely satisfied with this model because it is within their budget.

Anyone knows the spread between the legs? Trying to see if it'll fit my stand. Hold the 'that's what she said' or 'you gotta ask your mother' comments please. This is a serious question lol.
You'll have to ask your wife about that one boss.

The legs are adjustable… they spread quite nicely if you lube them up and use your hands with enough force

If you only want a huge cheap TV, this is it. If you want good PQ, look elsewhere.

It says 120hz, but honestly there's no reason to get a big TV that's not QLED or OLED in 2023 unless you're only looking for a big screen and don't care about picture quality.

Yes. I absolutely agree. And in the spirit of that, I think you having a second chance is in order.

If you're dead set on buying this, I recommend getting an Apple TV for streaming. It will make up for a lot of deficiencies with entry level sets. Your source is everything on a set like this.

The fact is that over 90% of people are perfectly happy with TV's that get "yellow" numbers on rtings.com. Even a red number or two is acceptable. For every 100 TV's I sell, I sell 3 or 4 QLED's and zero OLED's. A few people talk a big game, but no one has ever plunked down the cash. I sell twice as many TCL Hisense & Vizios as I do Sony, Samsung & LG. I've talked to a couple of kids loading TV's into cars at Best Buy, their numbers were less dramatic, but vaguely similar. Its just so easy to get stuck down a rabbit hole looking at mfr. specs and rtings numbers. I know I do it myself sometimes. But essentially it's mostly excruciating minutiae.

LG 86" UQ75 is also available for the same price.
My mother in law has this LG in an 86 and the Samsung in the 75, I can tell you the contrast sucks on the LG, no comparison here Samsung has a far, far better picture. Having seen both models it is Samsung all day long.

My Chase credit card shows Best Buy qualifies for 10% cash back right now too laugh out loud

Alright. I have decided to leave this thread and look into the A80J TV from Sony thread.

I learned that I'm somebody who wants the best 55" TV at or under $1k so there's that. Don't follow me folks.

Too bad large dumb TV no longer exist. It was much simpler back then…with much dated specs I believe. Plasma TV anyone?

My theory... You either go with the black Friday or the absolutely cheapest model in your desired size you can find or go all in with an OLED.
It really doesn't seem to make sense to go in the middle. With a middle models... You are getting small incremental improvements but still making huge compromises while paying a LOT of money (2x-5x or $500-1500) more than the $300 bottom model.
We find our spot of value to performance on that line I guess. That line is not linear though. The quality goes up slowly as prices climbs higher until you hit OLED where performance goes way up for not much more money. Opposite of the way most things are priced.
That being said, I bought a middle of the road. Clearance, one offs, and end of year deals can throw a wrench in my theory Smilie

Yes, like a car…say 2022 Honda Accord or Toyota Camry;

Base trim vs top trim in economy midsize sedan segment.

$25k vs $40k. Mid trim is 33k but with compromise.

I know what I want hence Sony 55'' A80J!
