What about money? Is money not a valid reason in your book? If so, can you lend me the extra $2500 to get an 83" OLED? I'll take itunes gift cards in lieu of cash. I won't complain about it actually being a couple inches smaller.

When deciding between this TV and the 86" LG deals, one of the biggest differences is panel type. The LG's use an IPS panel which provides a better viewing angle, but at the cost of contrast ratio. Samsung 85" Crystal models typically use a VA panel which has the opposite characteristics. I suspect the TU690T to be no different.

That's like saying "there's no reason to get a car that's not a Ferrari or Bentley unless you're only looking for a way to get around town and don't care about how you look". That makes sense right?? Not every consumer has an extra $4-5K for an 85" TV and will be completely satisfied with this model because it is within their budget.

You can go from 6.7 to 7.8 (11 pts.) going from a TCL 55S446 to 55S546 for about $100 or so. Take the 55" oled of your choice, subtract 11 points from its score and find a TV with that score. The difference in price between that TV and your OLED is going to be much more than $100.

I'm guessing that you're actually getting lost in the quagmire that is Samsung's bloated and overpriced QLED lineup. If you want to do comparisons there, you'll need a longevity factor. Consider multiplying the OLED price by 1.5 if you think it will only have 2/3 the performance life of the QLED. There is currently a significant disparity between manufacturer's claims and consumer experience. Samsung knows that and uses it to their best advantage.

LG OLEDs have OLED care panel refresh and pixel refresh which will prevent or fix burn-in. Lots of people use them for computer monitors or games these days which have lots of static icons etc

People seem to be scared of burn-in, but nobody seems to have ever actually seen it happen outside of store display TVs that are on 24/7.

OLED does work best in darker rooms. QLED would be better for a very bright room.

I don't think every consumer needs to be looking at the very best and most expensive TV, but there is a factor when looking at TV's in this size that many people overlook. Most people don't have the seating distance to mask the imperfections. So whereas you may be perfectly happy not getting the best tech for a 55 or 65" TV, you may well find that you DO see the imperfections on an 85" TV simply by nature of not having enough distance from your seating.

I say this from experience, I have close family members that bought a budget model of an 80+ inch TV and while they are not generally sensitive to lower end tech they very much did notice that the picture on their brand new TV was not nearly as crisp as it seemed on their previous model, which was 30" smaller. And while $1k is not nearly as expensive as the high end models, it's still A LOT of money for folks to spend on a brand new TV and come away disappointed.

Not everyone will experience this, but just thought I would mention it. Don't turn an entire wall into a low-end TV, sit 10 feet from it, and expect to be wowed. It's probably better to get a smaller TV with better tech.
