Rtings seems to indicate that there is a big difference between the two. See the section "Compared to Other TVs".

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u7h

Biggest difference I gleaned from reading is the number of local dimming zones, with the U8H having more zones and utilizing mini LEDs. More local dimming means better contrast and generally deeper blacks.

The 75" U7H has 120 local dimming zones compared to 528 on the U8H.

If it's your primary TV I would get the U8H. If it's a secondary TV you'll have to decide if you'll use it $350 more.

Can anyone speak to the IRL between the U7 and U8? Been looking at upgrading, and was holding out for a deal like this but on the U8 version (which may never happen). Curious if it's a noticeable difference - looking at 75". Thanks!

Not sure if this is a repost but maybe its time to take all the U7H posts and consolidate. Or is this it?

All I want is a 50" U6H for my back patio, and it annoys the heck out of me that the larger screen ones are cheaper and nicer models, but I can't get this pesky tv that is always teetering on this price. Great price for a well rated tv (rtings) especially for those who need a brighter tv

Yeah, u8 is definitely better. Mainly in brightness, but it gets a bump all around.

Costco deal 929:

And the 65" is $679. You get an extra year warranty (3 years in total) with the Costco version and their return policy.

I bought the 85" uh7 over black Friday deals. Would have gotten the u8h if the damn thing came in 85" I have a big living room...the new u7k coming out over the summer will have mini led. I've heard the u8h is definitely a step up, mostly due to it's peak brightness (almost 2000 nits in some cases) Contrast is pretty close to oled levels as well. I've also read some reviews that said unless you have the 7 and 8 right next to each other and watching the same thing, you wouldn't notice the difference. The u8k is also coming in 85" over the summer.

I have the exact same question. Seems like the U8 is a real upgrade so now I need to decide if it's worth the extra $350.

Has anyone upgraded from a Sammy KS8000 the last two years or so? I keep hating the flashlighting on it and relatively poor viewing angle but it can still produce an impressive picture and surprisingly deep blacks compared to even a lot of newer TVs. Wonder if something like this would satisfy me or if OLED is the only logical step.

One of the refurb deals( with additional 2 year warranty) on the Samsung QN90a , that seem to come and go, is your friend

You will like it much better than the KS8000 and it will still give you the Samsung " look" with better screen uniformity, brightness and contrast than the KS8000

I used to have a KS8000 and my mother still has hers
Its a solid TV in many ways

I have the 75 inch U8. And I've had oled in the past. It's not oled. But it's close. Very very bright tho. Too bright imo. Screen uniformity is great. Speakers are good. Tho I have a soundbar. I'm overall very please.and I'm certain you will. Not sure about the U7 tho.

I've been considering these tvs recently but haven't seen either in person yet. This video [youtube.com]helps a bit in showing the difference in picture. The prices will be better in November though and the 2023 models might be on sale at that time too to offer even more choices. Perhaps the U7K will be comparable to the U8H in color density and blooming.
