You can set ECO mode for the 7700X to force it to 7700 non-X settings and spend that $30 towards a nicer cooler.

Seems like a win/win?

Also available with the $50 off coupon on Amazon if you check under other sellers; still sold and shipped by Amazon but hidden by them for some reason 🤷 ♂️

Or, you can OC the non-x and the cooler it comes with is still plenty to handle it, and you can still run it stock if you want.
I still don't get it though. You can buy a better cooler for $30 and for only $50 more ($20 net) you'd be looking at MUCH better coolers.

How does this compare to the 5800X3D for gaming?

I'm all for AM5 but those motherboard prices... omg. It's going to be another 6 months before they come down to reasonable levels. Cheapest B650M boards are still $160-175.

If you already have an AM4 board + DDR4 RAM, there's absolutely no reason to get this over a 5800X3D. The generational gains are pretty minimal. I personally upgraded from a 5800X to a 5800X3D and will wait for the 8000 series CPUs.

Thanks for the insight. Yes I do still have an AM4 board so I'll just stick with the 5800x3d then, especially since it's the same price at microcenter right now on sale.

Plus these Zen4 chips use a ton less power vs 13th gen on load
While this is technically correct, the statement is still misleading. The vast majority of PC builders are using their rigs for gaming. In gaming environments, Intel vs AMD is actually much closer in efficiency than people realize because people obsess over max numbers these days. Essentially, benchmark numbers, and then assume it will always use that much power. It doesn't. Though, yes, AMD still is slightly ahead due to being on a smaller process. Gaming doesn't usually eat a lot of processing power. You're usually looking at ~15-20% load on these new processors.

As far as power draw at 100% load, that's how Intel pulls so far ahead on multicore performance over AMD. But that power is only used when necessary.

Well of course. Multithread was what I was alluding to. There are enough reviews out there that I didn't think I'd need to reiterate the deviation for gaming only.

The cheaper B620 will be available next month for around $125 according to some sources online.

The iGPU in these latest gen of chips is better than Intel 13th Gen ? They should be able to do home office stuff and some light video and photo editing? I don't game and don't want to spend money on a dGPU.
No. These use 2CU (very low 'core' count) IGPs, much weaker than the laptop and 'G' APUs from AMD.

The 12th/13th gen IGP is faster than these, and has Quicksync for acceleration in video editing (big plus).

Youd be better off getting a 13600k or 13500 for what youre wanting to do. The 13500 is pretty ideal for you, as it has similar multithread performance as a 7700x, costs $250, has the better IGP, but is a bit weaker in gaming (which you say you dont do), also you can pair it with a cheap B660/B760/Z690 board and cheap DDR4.

Are you sure that Intel has the better iGPU when comparing to AMD's latest gen? I found this comparison and it looks like AMD beats Intel in almost all the categories?

You're right about speed, but look at the difference in unit counts.

Wow.. that's a huge difference! So the GPU execution units are what make the Intel iGPU better than the AMD at the end of the day?

$30 less than the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 (non-x). That being said, I would rather have the non-x version.

Why do so many people get hung up on the power difference of the CPU's and GPU's? At the most the real world cost difference would only be $5 - $6 at most for the year and $13 under extreme circumstances at today's electricity prices when you work it out. Most people wouldn't even hit that.

7700x - 105 watt TDP
7700 - 65 watt

Difference of 40 watts, which is 0.040 kilowatts
Difference in price is $40 (currently as of this deal)

The average cost per kilowatt hour in the US is 0.16 dollars

0.04 kWh/hr x 0.16 dollars/kWh is 0.0064 dollars per hour. 40 dollars divided into 0.0064 dollar chunks is 9375 of those hours.

So if we had this CPU at max load for say 40 hours a week it would be:

$.0064 x 40 hours = $ 0.26 dollars per 40 hour week and $13.52 dollars per 52 week year. That means you hit 60 dollars in about 4.5 years.

And then you have to think do I have my CPU pegged full blast for 40 hours a week?
