The recommended speed doesn't matter one bit. You can throw a 3,200 in there and it will run everything exactly as fast as the stock SSD. The problem is this is Gen 3. Any Gen 4 will work, regardless of speed. My SSD is only 3,600. Digital Foundry did it with a 3,200. Not a single game uses the full bandwidth of SSDs yet, and it's extremely unlikely any will use anywhere close to the full speeds during this generation. I don't know why so many of you think "recommended" and "required" mean the same thing.
The speed is fine, but this won't work, because it's Gen 3. You have to get a Gen 4. Any Gen 4 will work. Sony recommends a speed of 5,500, but it doesn't matter. The slowest SSDs will load games and run them just as fast as the stock SSD. My secondary one is only 3,600 and it works phenomenally. Some people will swear up and done you need a faster one, but they have no idea what they're talking about. Digital Foundry got away with using an SSD with a speed of 3200 and it was just as fast.

It does not matter. What matters is that this is the wrong generation. This is Gen 3 and no Gen 3 will work with the PS5. You have to get a Gen 4. Any Gen 4 will work, and any speed will work. Sony recommends (not requires) a speed of 5,500, but not a single game takes advantage of that speed. Digital Foundry, the authority on all things video game performance, used an SSD with a speed of 3,200, and it loaded everything and ran it all just as fast as the stock. I have a Western Digital SN750 SE that only has a speed of 3,600 and it is just as fast at loading and running games as the stock SSD. Don't let anyone tell you you have to stick to that 5,500 speed. They're idiots. I know I'm just a random person on the internet, so you have no way to know if I'm right, but I am right. Here's the Digital Foundry video, too. https://youtu.be/zWQs4UpiKlg
I'm not yelling at you or anything, btw. I'm just sick of the misinformation from people (not you) who don't know what they're talking about, saying you absolutely have to have a speed of 5,500. It's completely false.

I agree, I just replaced my 500 gb laptop ssd and put it in my PS5 (January 29), so I got a warning saying my writing speed was 3500 per second and I proceed with the PS5 ssd formatting. when I moved and tested GTA V, Miles Morales, Cyber Punk and other PS5 titles everything worked like if they were installed directly on the console.
No. Not fast enough.
No, since it would remove from profit margin. Welcome to capitalist America. You think they coincidently removed SD card slot and replaceable battery option?
Not sure if you saw the other comments, but this is definitely fast enough. The reason it won't work is because it's a Gen 3 SSD and the PS5 only accepts Gen 4 SSDs. The speed is not the issue.

What about the dram for these nvme drives I keep seeing people talk about. What's the real world use for them and if you don't have it the cons. I feel you'll be able to explain it to me where I can understand Lmao

I would prefer to buy one with DRAM if possible, but not really a big deal being technical about it.
personally what i look out for is TLC(triple layer cells), i never buy QLC ( quad layer cells). and the TBW(terrabytes written) endurance. for example this drive has something like 400 TBW, thats 400k gigabytes written before its expired. for an average person they may never reach it in 10 years if all they do is game, however for a server it might be critical.
the equivalent ssd from teamgroup vs crucial is TLC instead of QLC. and the TBW is 1200. 3 times more endurance for practically the same price. this is potentially more important.
you can buy a car that can run to 250k miles, youll probably not keep it that long. or you can buy a car that can run 750k miles, why not.
