I don't understand why this style of lamp is in, anything with a glass lampshade is impractical. Nobody wants to see a bright direct light blasting them in the corner of their eye, or directly in the middle of their eye. Indirect lighting is better, and is less straining on the eyes

It's not intended to light up a room or be a primary light source. It's a stylistic accent lamp that would use a very low wattage bulb, like one of those vintage Edison style ones.

it wasn't too hard to assemble so my guess is that the people who left a bad review based on assembly did not notice or use the included wrench that's in the packet with the instructions. If you try to assemble it without the wrench it's very challenging
