Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Does anyone know if you need to port the same number as the number you're forced to enter to order?
The port-in number, account number, PIN, etc that you entered when ordering is not set in stone. You can log into your Fi account and update/change that info anytime, up to the time when you activate the Fi SIM.

Two seperate chats with Google Support state that Google Voice number is accepted for the promo. Have the transcript too. If things go south because of using Google Voice as the port we can show the transcript and sort it out?

They just told me it doesn't count so I'm confused.

Sigh... might as well go for a Tello or Freedompop sim and get the deal then if they themselves are confused about it.

Like I posted earlier, I've used my GV numbers to complete 5 Fi promos (4 S22s, one Pixel 7), even when the promo said the number has to be from a carrier with voice and data service. and they all completed OK. Nothing to sort out.

So I think I understand this but want to be clear. I do this deal porting in my existing Verizon cell number, pull the Fi sim card out and put my Verizon Pixel 3xl sim card in, keep the Fi sim in a drawer for 4 months while using the S23 with Verizon service, cancel Fi after 4 months and I'm done?

I went to Verizon and they gave me $1,000 for my S20+ 5G to pre-order the S23 Ultra.
This is completely different. Verizon is bill credits (aka modern day version of a contract) This is all up front.

When you port in your Verizon number, that line will no longer be active on Verizon. Optionally you may port in a cheap "throw away" number, activate the s23 phone with google Fi Sim card, then put fi Sim in drawer and insert your Verizon Sim in s23.

Tello has been very strict about new activations lately. U can register only 2 sims per new acct, or they will deactivate ur #s. Learned the hard way.
I did 4... And later on added another 6. But yes they have been strict. Am on my second "new" Tello account. 😊

I hear you.. but DaSuperTroopers response now have me concerned considering that their own support is giving contradicting statements.

If the Verizon cell number you're porting in is tied to the Verizon Pixel 3xl, then after you activated the Fi SIM that number will be on the Fi SIM.

If you're porting in a number not tied to the Pixel 3xl, then after you activated the Fi SIM with the port-in number, remove the Fi SIM and use your Pixel 3xl SIM in the Fi phone.

Someone posted in the S22 thread a while back that when they were using the Fi SIM in a different phone they got a message from Fi (not sure via email, text or what) saying "Don't lose your promotion. Put the SIM back into its original Fi phone" (or similar wording). If you didn't get a message like that AND your countdown continues, your promotion is likely safe.
The countdown is now in 4 days, so I am more hopeful each day that passes!

So if i become a new fi subscriber buying a fi sim at bestbuy and activating on a spare unlocked phone instead of porting a #, will I get the special promo afterwards to buy the Galaxy S23 ultra at a discount? also does the 120 days of fi service rule still apply here?

I don't know what else to tell you. If you don't feel comfortable using your GV number, then get a number from another source. Doesn't hurt my feeling.

What is the other alternative?
