Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

When did you place your order? At most credit card companies, a hold will expire after 5-7 days. I placed my order for a base S23 on 2/2 and today the $327.xx on hold dropped off too. Estimated delivery date still shows Feb 17-20.

I don't like their pricing but one good thing about Fi is, high-speed international data (when travelling outside the US). Don't need to do anything extra or buy any travel pass - it's just automatic and part of the same data usage as within the US.

Does any other carrier offer the same for cheaper?

T-mobile works similair to Fi in that regard, BUT their default international data speed is only 2G - so Fi is clearly better in that aspect.
Fi Simply Unlimited only offers international data in Mexico and Canada. Fortunately, they make it really easy to upgrade for the time traveling, and downgrade when you return, and pro-rated accordingly.

"The $180 value of the storage upgrade is reflected in the discounted price of the 512GB phone on fi.google.com. And the added $600 discount will be automatically applied at checkout for a total of $780 off"

They are saying that the 512 cost $180 more than the lower version, right? Seems like a lot for storage

I rushed to get the phone and now reading the details.

LOL! For a second I thought we were going to be credited extra $180

Delivery issues not resolved:

I had a lengthy chat w CS day before and asked them to send the transcript to my email.

They didn't

I was assured they would expedite the 2nd phone since the 1st one arrives tomorrow and the 2nd one still has a delivery date of March 17

I may have to call instead of chat

Anyone getting better results with voice over chat?

The camera arrays are totally different. There's more than measurements, there's placement. The s22 case won't work on the s23.
I second this. Saw a video on YouTube with an S22U case on the S23U, the camera placement is different. It won't fit.

It seems like nobody wants to keep Google Fi after the 120 days? Why? Is the quality of service poor?

I know I tried Fi years ago and too many calls were dropped or the data speed was rotten. I would have guessed things improved.
Fi service is great if you're traveling abroad (Unlimited Plus), not having to worry about purchasing a sim when you land, or connecting to wifi all the time. Slightly cheaper than other carriers and I get about the same/greater coverage than AT&T.

Supply might be increasing for all.

Though I pre-ordered through T-Mobile, original shipping date was the 17th.
Just now got notice that S23U Green has shipped out and will arrive in 2-3 business days.

Another update while typing this

Is that bad? I think there have been a lot of great wanderers in history.

I guess you might assume they don't contribute as much to the economy, though that's probably true of dealseekers too.

I went to Best Buy to look at the S23 line, and the Ultra is just huge. Like, way uselessly big. You aren't going to use the pen, the only real upgrade from the plus is the 10x camera. Admittedly, that's neat, but you can crop 8k video on the plus with the 3x zoom for essentially a 6x zoom on that. Overall it's not worth the daily bulk of the Ultra for the rare times you need a 10x camera. That's literally the only major feature that matters to most (200MP cam is actually not good).

I went with the Plus.
Glad you were able to justify not getting the Ultra. However you don't speak for everyone, myself included.

Everyone has different needs. But most fall into the category of tech lust without justification. If you're going to use a 10x zoom daily, have ham hands, and do architectural drawings in your meetings, then yes the Ultra is a slam dunk for you.

The biggest reason for me is unlike you, I really enjoy the bigger size and don't find it bulky at all. I have always bought the biggest size Samsung offers.
BTW what was the reason you upgraded to the S23 Plus..."Tech Lust"???

Quick question here, and sorry if this is a silly question. I initially placed the order with a GV number. I bought a plan from HelloMobile, but dont have a device i can place the sim card in to activate it, since I only have an old Samsung S3 I can use, but its locked to AT&T(currently having issues unlocking it and dont have any details about it). I wanted to keep the number that I see on my helloMobile account and port the Hello Mobile number from to Google FI once I get the device.

Im guessing I have to activate the sim first to hold on to that number? Or can I port it anyway? Does anyone have experience with this?

IIRC, the past 2 years, the pre order deal for S21U and s22u included a free memory upgrade from 128 gb to 256 gb...which was usually a $100 difference.

So if they say the price difference from 256gb to 512 gb is $180, then that sounds plausible.

Regarding google Fi online chat, there should be an option to request a copy of transcript with CSR in the chat window/box.
