Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Same. Was contacted to activate within 30 days of joining to avoid losing the promo. Ordered as a new customer on Feb 2, expected delivery March 3-7.

"Activate your Fi service today

If you signed up with a promotion, you have 30 days from signup to activate your service and receive your credit."
I knew it was too good to be true.
Is this the bait and switch? They're going to push off all the deliveries to deny people's discounts?

Dangit. Received email from Fi stating my promo code won't be valid if I don't activate within 30 days. My phone won't get here in time.
You received an email for the $600 discount?

These are the promo terms:

To qualify for the full discount, you need to:

Purchase the device or currently be in a group plan with the purchaser.

Activate the phone on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation.

You have to activate service after the device ships unless you signed up as an existing customer.

What exactly did it say? The promo details say within 30 days of shipping notification.

"Activate the phone on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation.

You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. "

Wait, hold up.. so there's a chance folks who are getting delayed shipment date estimates may not be able to (a) activate their phone in time to qualify for this deal and (b) may also not be able to activate in time to get the free $20 off service promo?

Also, for those that will get theirs in time for both (a) and (b) above, do they activate the phone before shipping it to you now (using eSim) or do they put in a sim card before shipping? If the latter, is it confirmed that you can take the sim out and put it in a drawer for 4 months, pop in any sim you want and use the phone freely, WITHOUT risking getting charged full price because they can't ping you to confirm your continued usage of Fi?

It most likely is for the $20 off promo code. See below....

I placed my order for a base S23 on 2/2 using my Discover Card. As soon as I submitted the order, I got an alert text from Discover of a transaction of $327.xx from Google Fi. My Discover account showed a pending charge of that amount, and a corresponding reduction in available credit. But that was just a hold, and didn't become an actual charge. A week later, on 2/9, it dropped off and no longer shows in Transaction History. The available credit went up the corresponding amount. If you didn't monitor your credit card account closely or have no alerts set up, you probably wouldn't know that a pending charge was made then dropped off.

It's within 30 days of the shipment confirmation. Read posts # 2606 & 2607 & 2609.

The Activation email is a generic email which is sent out by the system.

Feb. 3 order. Original ETA 3/7 - 3/14. I just checked again and now the ETA is 2/24 -2/25

"Don't forget to activate your Fi service" is the email subject

I should be safe now for the $20 off promo code

I got the same email today. I believe its referring to the $20 promo code. I doubt I get my phone in time but it sounds like something customer service could easily handle because they added the promo for me after I made the purchase of the phone.

Reddit thread shows that Google Fi customers finally starting to get shipment dates (at least the folks who ordered on 2/1).

Fingers crossed!

I ordered my S23 as an active Fi member, so no referral code was used. I tried to think how a new member who signed up with a referral code could salvage the $20 credit. One way is to buy/activate a Fi SIM. You'll get $10 in Fi credit to make up for the cost of the SIM, and $20 Fi credit for being referred. But it probably will screw up the promo for the S23 because you purchased the S23 as a new member and are porting in a number, but your Fi account is now that of an active Fi member.
So as new member .... I never should've used the $20 off promo code? That will screw up the $600 off on the phone?

That's not what I meant. Typically, an order is shipped promptly, and you have 30 days from the "order shipped" email to activate the phone/service and get $20 credit after 30 days of service. But in this case with the S23 shipment being pushed back/forth, it could be more than 30 days from when you placed your order to when you activate the phone/service. The email you received today from Fi seems to say that you have 30 days between placing your order and activation for the referral code to be usable.

I created a group plan and invited two. I ordered three devices and canceled one of them and re-order with a different color. I know from the previous comments that the phone comes with the sim pre-installed, but how would I know which device is for which google account in my group plan? I tried to navigate the Google Fi website with the other two accounts in my group plan but no device is shown in both accounts.

Log into your Fi account using a computer, click on Account-->Your Plan, scroll down to where it shows the devices. Click on the S23. If your S23 hasn't been shipped yet, it will show "No assigned IMEI or MEID". After your S23 has been shipped, it will show an IMEI. That's how you tell which phone is for which person. See attachments.
