Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

You would have to verify that the checkmark in the counter is done before cancelling the service. The steps you have should work but if you want to use FI on eSIM, activate using eSIM at the very beginning too. As mentioned in the comment right before to do that you might have to remove the physical SIM that the phone came with.
Thanks for helping me! I think the easiest way to not F IT UP would be for me to activate Fi physical sim and tuck that away after the counter starts and then just pop in my Vzw sim and leave the eSim alone!

Just got my green s23u and ported from tello. Process was pretty simple and fast. Now to wait for all the FI check marks to show my counter and that I ported over.. Overall glad I went with this route instead of taking Samsungs bad trade in deal.

I'm sure Boost will be back online and the port-outs will resume..the question is .. when ? Some folks on twitter and reddit are saying Boost has been hacked..again, which may explain the endless downtime.

Question for any who has traded in a device with Google recently. I have used the prepaid shipping box sent by Google and dropped it off at USPS location on Feb 11. The only status provided by the tracking number is "USPS is now in possession of the item" on Feb 11 and it hasn't updated since. I opened a ticket with USPS online and have not heard back anything yet. I came across some old posts online on how the third party used by Google for trade-in bacth processes the phones and USPS status may not update until the third party processes the trade-in. Is this a typical time frame for the trade-in to be recieved or should I be worried USPS may have lost the shipment?

Okay, so with Boost Mobile being down ( and God knows when they might be up and running .. ) I reached out to Fi support ( chat ) and explained my predicament, thereby requesting them to reset my Port-in from Boost so I could re-do it with a different carrier ( Tello )

The guy was more than happy to oblige, and I verified that resetting the port-in process ( it was stuck due to an incorrect PIN and there's absolutely NO way for me to contact or reach Boost Mobile for a port out PIN, as it stands right now ) will not remove the promo from Fi. He confirmed as such ( got the chat emailed to me, just in case.. )

He reset the port-in at his end, and I re-started the process and literally within 2 minutes I was done!! Within 5 minutes, I was able to send/receive calls and data started working as well. I also logged in to Fi and saw the number has been ported and assigned to the Fi sim! ( Pheww .. )

Now, waiting for the Fi countdown to start before I remove the Fi sim altogether!

Major kudos to the Fi support team for coming thru so efficiently!!

BTW, If you have Tello.. it was the easiest port out process! I did not have to call anyone or chat with anyone. From your account, they have a "port" section that you can click on, answer a couple of questions right there, and the site spits out ALL the info you'd need in seconds!

Unlike Boost ( where you need to call and get a 6 digit Port Out PIN ), Tello doesn't have a any such requirement. They suggest leaving it blank or using either 0000 or 000000. I used 000000 and Fi took it.

I had also only signed up with them in the last 2 hrs, since Boost is all f'd up.. I'm glad I had bought a Tello sim ( as a back up ) from Amazon!
For other Tello users...

Set the account security pin under My Information if you haven't done so already. It will ask for this security pin during the account number retrieval.

I selected other option as a reason for getting the acct num. Just want the account number handy if I decide to leave. And that's that. Pop comes the Acct Number.

Use 000000 as the Port Out PIN for Tello along with the account number.

If USPS doesn't show the package departing from where you dropped off, most likely it's sitting on their floor somewhere. The typical problem with Fi trade-in shipments is that they get to the destination post office (Nashville or La Verge, TN) OK but not marked as Delivered and stayed as "Moving in the Network" forever even after they were processed, or take round-about trips from Nashville to Atlanta and back. Typically, once the warehouse received the phone, they inspect and credit in 2-3 days. During last year-end, with workers on holidays/vacations and the flood of incoming trade-in due to the 30-day Fi S22 deal, the backlog was 12-14 days. But after New Year it got much better. I sent in an iPhone11 on 2/6, it got to the warehouse on 2/8, got inspected and credited on 2/10.
