Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I haven't, just got phone 2 days ago and 119 days left for promotional credit in Fi app. Number was ported in in minutes. Only email I received was regarding $20 referral credit.
How long after activating did you receive the email regarding referral credit, I have not received it

Question 1: Fi on eSIM/eIMEI, previous (and to be main carrier) on regular SIM, is that an issue for fulfilling the requirement?

Versus throwing the Fi SIM (which implies a physical SIM) into a drawer.

Q2: If Fi is instead a phys SIM, can regular T-Mo post-paid be converted to the eSIM/eIMEI? And both operate to fulfill the Fi requirement.
1. Shouldn't be. You have activate with eSIM first.
2. I'm not sure but people here were using Verizon esim and FI physical SIM together so I'm guessing other big carriers should work too?

Got my s23 today and tried to activate but the Fi SIM isn't reading. I threw my TMobile sim in and it worked perfectly. The Fi sim is not recognized by the phone. Google support was less than worthless. Any suggestions?
How about taking the FI SIM out and activate with eSIM instead?

My phone didn't include a SIM. I guess two options. You can request a free SIM from Google store. It takes about a week to get it. You can also pickup a SIM from Bestbuy or other stores. I picked one up from Bestbuy so i can start the countdown sooner. In this case the SIM cost 10$ and you get 10$ FI credit. I bought it earlier in the week and it had a 2$ off, so i guess it also saved me a buck overall.

My countdown and promos including the 10$ FI credit and 20$ referral credit all trigfered fine.

No eSim? I didn't even check my phone and activation was fine.

back to looking for safe port-in (after Boost did me in). so what is the safest cheap option (under $10) that i can get asap to port? I have some sim cards from mint/tracfone/cricket etc.
Looks like Boost's issue is a cyber attack. Dish TV as well

"I've reviewed your account and see that if you port in your number from Google Voice, the promotional offer will get invalidated."

Did anyone else get a support message like this? Not sure what to do honestly. Seems to work for everyone.

I was going to try Tello or Boost Mobile, as plan B.

I'm using a Galaxy S8+ currently with service I would like to keep on this phone. Would I be able to activate Tello or Boost on it without messing with my active plan? S8+ doesn't accept eSim from everything I've read, but I wouldn't easily and reliably be able to activate anything on the new S23 Ultra from what I understand?

Or, is it possible to activate online without doing anything with a phone?

Thanks in advance for suggestions, sorry for so many questions.
You should be able to activate a Tello or any other Sim with your S8+ with no problems.
Cannot activate a Sim online.

NOW, as far as the highlighted text above that you got from Google Fi Support, you should not take a chance and try to activate the S23 by porting a GV #.

You have plenty of time to activate and port a # as you have 30 days from the day you get the shipment notification from Google Fi.

Also, that GV# ineligible warning by Google Fi support should be worrisome to those who ported GV #s, as it indicates that Google Fi MAY have started to do a review of all these port in #s and disqualify them from getting the $600 or $500 cash credit.

Hopefully, that will not happen but Google Fi is within its T&C to legally do so for this deal even though the port in went thru during the activation process..

Chat or call Google Fi CS and have them manually add the referral code to your account.
Many here have done that, it's not too late.
BUT, you must have a valid referral code.
Good Luck.

Got the S23 today, connected it to WiFi during the phone setup process, declined all the Google junk, the activation and the Tracfone # port in went thru, AND after all was done the phone did an update to One UI 5.1 with Android 13.

The physical Google Fi Sim was already inserted in the phone from the factory.

All the steps under Fi Savings - In Progress were checked and fulfilled with only the last step #5 remaining: Stay active on Fi for 120 more days.

Thanks, I'll grab a SIM.

I asked for clarification and received the following. I would agree to proceed with caution in porting in any Voice numbers.

"I would like to inform you that we want you to get all the benefits of the promotion on $600 Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. That is the reason as per the terms and condition numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

Also, if you port in your number from Google Voice, the promotional offer will get invalidated."

Be careful!

Again, that should be very worrisome to all those who have already ported in a GV #, as it indicates that Google Fi knows about this issue and seems to be serious about enforcing its legal T&C, and it has 120 days to do so.

There are 2 possible ways out of this:
1. Since almost everyone who's done this is within the 15 day cancel period as of today, they may wish to exercise this right.

2. Contact Google Fi ASAP, state that they made a mistake in porting in the wrong # and ask, if possible to be allowed to port in a valid #.
Hopefully, they may be given that opportunity, but doing so will attract attention to this deed and so it's a dicey act as Google Fi may deny it.
BUT, given that you are within the 15 cancel period right, you have some leverage as Google Fi may grant the allowance to port in the right # instead of getting a cancellation and have an open box, essentially used phone, returned.
After the 15 days your leverage disappears.

Good Luck to all!!!

Anyone that use Hello, did you have to call their number to activate your sim? I've tried a couple times and it hangs up on me.
I'm assuming I need it to be activated before I can port it.
The weird thing is that I can text and call from the number just fine.

Even though GV has worked in the past and may continue to work, people repeatedly asking Google Fi support about it may bring more attention to it and result in it no longer working in future promotions and/or clawbacks if they don't mind pissing off a lot of people.
