Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Did anyone notice manufacturing quality issues? I had two S23U one made in Korea and other from Vietnam. I noticed the SIM tray in Vietnam made phone is not holding the sim properly.

I think the product quality (rather than features) is a major factor for users moving to Apple.
Dumb question but how do you tell if an S23U was made in Korea or Vietnam?

UPS says it's 0.90LBs so hopefully it's not an empty box. 🤞
That doesn't mean much. It's not that the warehouse shipped an empty box, but for people who received an empty box the package was opened and the content stolen somewhere enroute.

Printed right on the box where the IMEI and other info are.

Lol I live an hour from Google HQ but my phone is coming from. Hodgkins, IL. Guess they have a distribution center near there?

Edit..anyone port in from xfinity mobile? Curious what I will need.
Don't worry.
UPS tracking showed up as 1LB package but actual box label when I received has "2 LB".

Last piece of the puzzle, selling my Pixel 7 Pro 256gb, Gazelle offered $568 and gives me until 3/31 to send my phone. Comes out to selling on ebay for almost $700 when you factor in fees and paying to ship. I'll see if I can sell locally for $650 before sending it in end of the month. Thank you everyone for your help on here. Tracker is down to 117 days, put my TMobile sim at 119.

It shouldn't. This runs an unlocked image not a carrier one which has those animations baked in.
Awesome, thanks! Asked because I once bought an "unlocked" phone off ebay and my animation changed after inserting the sim. It also downloaded the T-mobile app and a bunch of other carrier bloatware automatically, some which I couldn't uninstall.

Google Fi seems mostly free from bloat apps (except the one Samsung installs)

What should I select to port from Tracfone with TF/Verizon SIM to Fi? Verizon or Other? Fi seems to recognize it as a Verizon number. Thanks!

It's been since last April that I ported in a number from TF/Verizon. I think whether you put in Tracfone, or Other, once it checks the number it'll change it to Verizon. Works just fine.

Thanks! You are right. I chose Other, and after I entered the Tracfone account info, it changed to Verizon.

Well my delivery today was moved out to tomorrow. Tracking shows it was picked up at Ingram Micro in Rancho Cucamonga at 12:30 AM this morning and didn't make it to the Bloomington CA. FedEx Hub until 7:40 AM. That is only 14 miles away. That is a whole lot of stops, and / or pillaging of Samsung phones to take 7 hours. Color me jaded.

Bloomington CA hub might as well be running the gauntlet given the history of firearms theft and other thieves that have been documented in that particular hub. Good luck. My S23U went through that hub and fortunately was unscathed.

I have a weird problem. I ported number from a straighttalk account. It took a few days, finally today the Google Fi app says "activated the device". However, it already says "didn't transfer a number to fi". I am only able to make a phone call one time in a few hours. Rest of the time it just says my connection is restricted. I really don't need to service, I just want to make sure the promo can be fulfilled. I contacted help desk and they escalated the issue. But I wanted to check if anyone faced a similar issue.
Just to close the loop on this, my timer started working, although the phone calls with Google fi are still not working. I wasn't planning to use Fi anyways, so it doesn't impact me.
