i don't have this model, but i currently have the REL 1508. I also tried the SVS SB2000 pro. they were about $1000 when i bought it back in the spring. i like the REL a lot more. the SVS app is cool and all but feel like a gimmick to me.

the REL is noticeably better when playing music. but when watching movies, it's hard to tell them apart. in the case of the 1508, it takes XRL cables and has a passthrough XRL, which is a huge plus. the lower models unfortunately do not.

in the appearance department, i think the REL is better too. SVS has the wood finish and the glossy piano finger print magnet finish. neither of which really works with most furniture. this REL sub is black but not glossy. it looks great

i like my 1508 so much that i just bought the 1205 sub from this sale for my summer house. i'm not even cross shopping at this point. i really like this brand.

What this sub needs is the name REL plastered all over it in a few more places.

Go with the REL from this deal, particularly the HT/1205.

With the current sale, the REL is punching well above its competitors at their respective deal price points (you're looking at the SVS-SB1000 at $400 and Monolith by Monoprice M10 at $450).

This would be a different story at normal price points, with more folks on the internet seemingly going for SVS or Monolith, but personally, if I didn't already have my sub setup and was in the market for a sub, I'd definitely go for this deal.

I can list 10 subs that are less than half the cost and eat that REL for breakfast.

This is like audioquest selling $1000 stereo cables. Means nothing.
you can say that about any brand...... this is not a commodity where they will sell at cost. Dislike REL as much as you want, but it has a brand name in the audiophile community, and that's why it can price accordingly.

I prefer tight accurate sealed subs over boomy sounding ported loud and loose subs. Not enough bass? Use multiple sealed subs then. I have 5 in my HT setup, and 1 in my 2 channel system. Thinking about 1 of these in my vintage 2 channel setup (Infinity Kappa 8's) since my old Velodyne F1200 driver has a deteriorated surround.

Nice explanation. I just spent part of my afternoon demoing these subs at Best Buy. They had the REL 10" and 12". They also had KEF, SVS, Martin Logan, Definitive Technology, and Sonos.
We demod using music. No movies. Other than the Sonos, every other sub sounded better than both RELs. They could not fill the room properly with bass. They were tight and seamless, but struggled to keep up with the music. No other subs struggled. Even the SB 10" SVS did a much better job blending with the music. Now placement was surely a factor. But the other subs had similar placement issues. And they performed well. The receiver was an Arcam, the speakers were B&K towers. The rep even adjusted the gain and cut off to no avail. I'm not sure how they can sell these when put next to anything else. I will say they look a little better in person. YMMV. Just please don't buy these without listening to them first. We used Donald Fagan, Diana Krall, Steely Dan, Dire Straights, Talking Heads, and Dave Brubeck. It was a fun afternoon, but a bit of a let down for these subs. This is the Best Buy in Polaris, Columbus Ohio for reference.

Were the REL's the only sealed model you tested? Sealed subs usually have tighter more defined bass at the expense of output. I run 5 sealed subs in my HT, and one in my secondary system.

Almost all of them were sealed. I couldn't believe how small the SVS sealed subs were.

I have jbl 550p and i wonder if the rel HT/1205 or HT/1003 will be significant enough of an upgrade or if it even an upgrade at all. I only care about music performance and only want sealed sub. Is rhytmic sub often goes on sale? Any other suggestion for an upgrade to my jbl 550p? Looking for something around $700. thanks

So did you listen to both the SVS 10" and 12" SB models?

Edit: I see the SB-1000 and SB-2000 are both 12" models. The 2000 has a larger amp and enclosure volume.

I don't know this brand but I can testify to svs. They had a phenomenal memorial day special where I got a sb2000 for under 400 and it makes me regret that I have a jbl 10in paired with it. I have a wall of subs in my basement that I don't use because that thing is so perfect. I can't recommend svs enough. I even wear their free shirt lol
I just bought the SB-2000 for $500 via the SVS outlet. Super pumped

I've got a jbl 550p myself that I use primarily for music. How big is the room? For a small to medium sized room the jbl does pretty well. In a large room, a more expensive sealed sub (along the lines you listed) is going to be a clear upgrade. I use my jbl in a 12x12 room and have no desire for something more powerful in that space.

My room is 15x12. the upgrade i mean is not abt power or spl but bass tightness and accuracy for music.
