the REL is noticeably better when playing music. but when watching movies, it's hard to tell them apart. in the case of the 1508, it takes XRL cables and has a passthrough XRL, which is a huge plus. the lower models unfortunately do not.
in the appearance department, i think the REL is better too. SVS has the wood finish and the glossy piano finger print magnet finish. neither of which really works with most furniture. this REL sub is black but not glossy. it looks great
i like my 1508 so much that i just bought the 1205 sub from this sale for my summer house. i'm not even cross shopping at this point. i really like this brand.
With the current sale, the REL is punching well above its competitors at their respective deal price points (you're looking at the SVS-SB1000 at $400 and Monolith by Monoprice M10 at $450).
This would be a different story at normal price points, with more folks on the internet seemingly going for SVS or Monolith, but personally, if I didn't already have my sub setup and was in the market for a sub, I'd definitely go for this deal.

This is like audioquest selling $1000 stereo cables. Means nothing.

We demod using music. No movies. Other than the Sonos, every other sub sounded better than both RELs. They could not fill the room properly with bass. They were tight and seamless, but struggled to keep up with the music. No other subs struggled. Even the SB 10" SVS did a much better job blending with the music. Now placement was surely a factor. But the other subs had similar placement issues. And they performed well. The receiver was an Arcam, the speakers were B&K towers. The rep even adjusted the gain and cut off to no avail. I'm not sure how they can sell these when put next to anything else. I will say they look a little better in person. YMMV. Just please don't buy these without listening to them first. We used Donald Fagan, Diana Krall, Steely Dan, Dire Straights, Talking Heads, and Dave Brubeck. It was a fun afternoon, but a bit of a let down for these subs. This is the Best Buy in Polaris, Columbus Ohio for reference.

So did you listen to both the SVS 10" and 12" SB models?
Edit: I see the SB-1000 and SB-2000 are both 12" models. The 2000 has a larger amp and enclosure volume.
