i don't have this model, but i currently have the REL 1508. I also tried the SVS SB2000 pro. they were about $1000 when i bought it back in the spring. i like the REL a lot more. the SVS app is cool and all but feel like a gimmick to me.

the REL is noticeably better when playing music. but when watching movies, it's hard to tell them apart. in the case of the 1508, it takes XRL cables and has a passthrough XRL, which is a huge plus. the lower models unfortunately do not.

in the appearance department, i think the REL is better too. SVS has the wood finish and the glossy piano finger print magnet finish. neither of which really works with most furniture. this REL sub is black but not glossy. it looks great

i like my 1508 so much that i just bought the 1205 sub from this sale for my summer house. i'm not even cross shopping at this point. i really like this brand.

What this sub needs is the name REL plastered all over it in a few more places.

Go with the REL from this deal, particularly the HT/1205.

With the current sale, the REL is punching well above its competitors at their respective deal price points (you're looking at the SVS-SB1000 at $400 and Monolith by Monoprice M10 at $450).

This would be a different story at normal price points, with more folks on the internet seemingly going for SVS or Monolith, but personally, if I didn't already have my sub setup and was in the market for a sub, I'd definitely go for this deal.

My room is 15x12. the upgrade i mean is not abt power or spl but bass tightness and accuracy for music.
In my experience, stepping up to the $500-700 range for subs is mostly about SPL and output. You're going from the jbl with 300W RMS to something like the HT/1205 with 500W of power. If that's not what you are looking for then I don't know if it would be worth the cost to upgrade.

The jbl is a really "tight" sub, it just doesn't generate tons of SPL in a large room. When looking for a sub for music, there's a general emphasis on integration. The sub should "disappear" and blend into the full range speakers. If it's so audible that you hear the bass and think "wow, that's a nice subwoofer" then it is probably coming from a ported sub that's more intended for home theater rather than music.

I just upgraded from the jbl sub150p to the rel ht1205....night and day upgrade......this thing rumbles my basement....Good clean deep bass. I'd originally ordered the ht1003 and immediately returned it because it drastically struggled. If you're going to pull the trigger on this deal, spend the extra $100 and go with the 12" rated at 500w rms.

Quick question...easier to return to best buy, with only 15 days, or easier directly to REL with 60 days?

Check the return shipping policy for REL. If it's free, REL is better for the 60-day listening window. Otherwise, you might want to go with BestBuy for their free return, even if it's only 15 days.

There is much, much more detail to go into. However, all three brands are amazing and will not let you down (REL, SVS, Monolith) for music or movies. If you bought one of these three you should not have buyers remorse. No one will trump the other.

General rules, regardless of brand, are (1) sealed for music, (2) ported for movies, (3) always go 12-inch, skip the 10-inch. (4) If you plan to ever have two, it's better to have two $300 subs than one $600 sub.

Class A/B vs D is a serious debate for 8-inch and smaller drivers. For subwoofers, D is the most efficient and makes the most sense.

Getting into the branding, reviews, and reputation. The consensus has always been REL is faster (better for music) and SVS goes deeper (better for movies). Neither is bad at either. Both are good for both.

This particular REL is overbranded, but you can swap out the feet for some SVS SoundPath feet to help minimize that.

Source: happy owner of an SVS SB12-NSD (the '400 watt' SB-1000) for the home theater and two REL HT/1205's for the 2-channel vinyl setup. And clearly no woman in my life.

Ended up going with an SVS SB-2000 for $499. This is just for the Center Channel in my HT. I have 4 other subs for main L&R, plus Surround L&R. All sealed models.

I've got a jbl 550p myself that I use primarily for music. How big is the room? For a small to medium sized room the jbl does pretty well. In a large room, a more expensive sealed sub (along the lines you listed) is going to be a clear upgrade. I use my jbl in a 12x12 room and have no desire for something more powerful in that space.
I replaced Klipsch ported Rs-12wi 200 watts with Rel 1205. I can't tell you the night and day difference. Rel is tight, integrates better and doesn't rattle or resonate. It's a musical sub for the price. All it lacks is the slam like SVS subs but the lack of outright slam is replaced with fast response, better integration and tightness. You can crank the gain all the way to 75% and nothing in my house rattles and nor does the cabinet resonate like the Klipsch.
At this moment the 12" is out of stock.

12 inch is out of stock, got the last 12 inch from Best Buy that was 40 miles away. It's so good, that I am keeping it and tempted to buy another.

Definitely buy another one if you could. Or maybe get 2 more.
