I've read that my fellow SD-ers don't care for carrier promotions. Okay, but this one is good.

I've been on T-Mobile for years, and I've had good experience with them, although YMMV. If you're on their Magenta Max plan, as I am, or are willing to switch to that plan, here's the deal:

$1,379.99 Galaxy S23 Ultra, 512GB, full price
(180.00) Samsung's current promo of 512GB for the price of 256GB
-------------
$1,199.99 T-Mo's price for the phone
(1,000.00) T-Mo's current trade-in promotion for my Galaxy S21+ 5G
-------------
199.99 which must be paid in 24 monthly instalments of $8.34
========

Older phones get less than $1,000 trade-in.

Depending on your state, you'll have to pay tax on $1,199.99 up front. Also, T-Mo charges a $35 upgrade fee (taxable) which is pure BS, so I'm going to try to get it back.

Caveats:
1- Have to be okay with a carrier-locked phone, at least until it's paid for.
2- Have to be okay with T-Mobile. (Verizon has a similar deal.)
3- Have to be on their Magenta Max plan. I'm on MM 55+. (Membership has its privileges. Smilie)
4- Only recent phones qualify for $1,000 trade-in.

And also this ...

5- Have to be okay with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Not everyone is impressed by it.

TBH, I don't really need all that the S23 Ultra offers, but for $200, WTH. And it will assure me of a top-dollar trade-in for the next phone.

I had this same issue. I talked to TMobile customer service to see if my account was marked as a business or government account and it ended up being marked as business. They're changing it for me so I can order. Have them check for you too.
Thank, I'll call them again but last time I'd called tmobile, they told my account was fine but who knows.

If I upgrade to Magenta Max, I need to pay $53 more per month for my 4-line account but I will get 2 screen Netflix streaming ($15 per month value). It almost make even. It would be cheaper if I get the unlocked one on Samsung with 15% cashback and $150 credits for accessories.
I did T-Mobile carrier offer through samsung.com and got storage upgrade, $70 accessories credit (Add $50 reserve credit, if you have that) no upgrade fee, and 15% Cashback ($180). I have trade-in Note 10 and got Watch 5 Bluetooth for free (or Watch 5 Pro Bluetooth for $100) as Note 10 trade-in special deal. No accessories credit if you take watch deal.

I was going to do mine via the Samsung site. But they were only going to give me $800 for my Galaxy S21. For some reason T-Mobile gave me $1,000 trade-in value. Don't know why T-Mobile did it. The online literature indicates $800 for my phone.

I have 5 months left on my S21 that I can pay off. Does the trade-in need to be unlocked?? Can I pay off and immediately trade it in?

If you have outstanding balance, you can pay it off and the credits will continue. If you are trading in a different phone than what's on installment plan, you can have more than one device promotion on the same line as long as it is not the same promo code.

I upgraded two lines 4-5 months before their 24-month cycle around BF last year. One of the phones I paid off as it had very little balance and another still has balance. Both lines continue to receive both old and new credits.
Did the phones have to be unlocked for you to trade it in (after pay off)? The credits still rolled in even though you traded the device?

Phones can be locked to carriers when trading them in. As long as it is paid off and fully owned in good condition, you should be fine.

Yes, T-Mo credits will continue as long as plan and phone line is still alive even after trade in.

You didn't run into the deposit issue. They were asking for $400+ people were having issues with trade in devices not showing up after ordering

I only pay $100 a month for 4 lines on max. Discounts are available occasionally. The bill credits are only for 24 months not 36.
How are you getting for Max lines for a hundred bucks?

You know, I just upgraded to magenta military max cuz it was easy to get this deal for two phones while upgrading all lines to to up 4K streaming on the network and banishing that standard definition limit.

The agent told me in a chat session that magenta military Max would be $100 for four phones. Which I don't understand because when I looked at the option too compare plans it was coming in at 140 for Magenta military max.

So I'm just going to go with it and I have the price and chat history. Maybe the agent made a mistake or maybe they didn't.

Caveat #6: the $1000 credit is distributed across *3 years*. (edit: 2 years if you can get that) This means you have to keep the phone for 24/36 months in order to get the full $1000 credit ($27.78/mo for 36 months, or $41.67/mo for 24 months)
Correction: You have to keep T-Mobile for 3 years.

T-Mobile will convert phone payment credits to general account credits (toward your phone plan) if you pay it off early.

The account credits still apply monthly.

It's because of insider code (20% off bills), plus free lines from promos (get 3rd line on us, and additional free line promos the past couple years).

I have 7 lines (paying for 2 with insider discount) and my bill is around $100 (a little less due to credits). And this is Magenta Max.

Side note: could've been 8 lines, but I missed one of the free line promos

Make sure you go to account and manage my plan to see how much it says your plan is it should show exactly what your bill will be

Deleted my Q. I confirmed Samsung trade in value for s21 5g was only 800 bucks and not 1000 bucks that I got from T-Mobile. Guess I got mixed up on all the deals I tried.
