100amp is good for light sheet metal. But stick welding on light sheet metal is a real challenge. I wouldn't try that. And I've been welding over 60 years. Currently own three oy-acetylene rigs, two MIGs, three sticks.
I don't have this model but a much more fully featured YesWelder model and it's a quality welder. That said, I bought it during a "limited-time" Black Friday sale two years ago that as far as I can tell has been running perpetually ever since; only the holiday or other occasion has changed. This is most likely a paid placement like many so-called deals here, so nothing to panic-buy your way into. It'll almost certainly be this same price tomorrow and next week and on the 4th of July and on Frodo's birthday and....
This is the regular everyday price, just search amazon/ebay.
Got one a while back, its small, not much bigger than a loaf of bread but it welds.

FakeSpot drops that 4.5 star rating down to two stars, but I am sure it comes by those two stars honestly.

Okay, so what do you recommend for a high-quality, versatile, portable beginner's rig?

Different kind of welding but can anyone recommend an inexpensive but decent spot welder, for occasional use connecting LiOn cells with nickel strips, that maybe take advantage of smart circuitry akin to how the TS100 and Pinecil work and can work off of 45W or 65W USB-C PD power supplies and power banks?

Which model, if you don't mind sharing? I'm currently running a Lincoln 220v unit, but can't transport it easily and really like the dual voltage option…

Did you buy one and it blew up on you? Do you have first hand experience with this machine or are you just making an unfounded statement because you don't like the price.
Welding for 20 years here, stick welding at your own house use pretty stretchy bc of the fire risk, just make sure to be safe.

As others have said, this is their regular price. Many sellers on amazon will raise the price for a short amount of time to make it seem like it's on sale. Especially around holidays/black friday

I weld 16 ga regularly with a stick welder. Anything lighter is tough, but this is a DC machine. You can run a scratch start TIG torch on it or run silicon bronze with a carbon stick for lighter stuff.

So after reading reviews and watching youtube videos, I cancelled my order of this 125A stick welder. It seems the consensus is you'll outgrow it pretty quickly. I decided to go with another unit that's on sale for $139.99 After $50 coupon. Twice the price, but I'm confident it will be worth it. It's multi process so it does Flux Gasless and Stick. You can also add components for TIG, but that seems unnecessary. Would be nice if it had dual voltage, but I don't have a 220 setup anyway so I'm not complaining. Here's a link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CBBHFX5?

If you want a stick welder with more amperage, you can spend $21 more than OP model and get the 165A model
