The internal batteries are lithium, they shouldn't require charging every two weeks, NOCO recommends every 6 months, but most users are reporting that they have to charge it every month. Then again, if the discharge rate is that quick, every two weeks isn't crazy, but that tells you the poor quality of the batteries. not to mention the super low capacity at 2150mah vs other brands.

i have one of these and struggle to start my cars right away. ive had a cheap lithium jump starter and a few lead acid starter boxes, they were all able to easily start my car with in moments of hooking them up. however my NOCO always gives me problems.

These are great little boxes if and only if you keep them regularly charged and at home (which is very inconvenient if you actually need them). If you live in a place like I do where it regularly gets over 100 degrees you cannot keep them in your car or garage. I've been through a few of them and each time the heat killed them. I've tried this exact one and a few different brands and if you forget them in the car, they're toast. But if you're like me and have a motorcycle or two that doesn't get ridden as often as it should you can't beat the size and portability. I still keep getting these because if you have a woot coupon the portability plus price make it okay. Plus noco sells attachment leads you can route to your battery box and plug this into them to jumpstart without having to disassemble your bike. Just leave them in a riding bag that's stored in your nice cool house and set a reminder on your phone to charge it every couple weeks. No one wants to be the guy that ruins a group ride or poker run after pulling up to a gas station and getting stuck there.

FYI Project Farm also tested the GB40 and it didn't do very well, he also tested both the Gooloo's that I have and they did great.
I have noco gb40 and I recommended it to two family members. (i now regret having done so).

the workmanship is top notch.

however:

- it is annoying that they do not give you a hard case. their fabric pouch is a joke.

- apparently their "start amp" (which they do not advertise or list Wink) is around 500 (most recommend 1000) and that is why it does not perform as well as other similarly priced jumpers.

btw: noco gb40 retains charge really well. after several month mine only loses one circle.

lastly, and to be fair, my gb40 has not failed me yet. i used it once on a mini-cooper.

however, knowing what i know now, i would not buy it again. Frown i would use the recommendation by the project farm guy. (it is more like project university.)

I just used bought this and used this in extreme cold. It didn't help and battery charge was gone. Had to call road service. This 1000amp m8ght only help if you have a newer car with not so beaten up engine, no starter or ignition problem, not cold outside, and your battery still has some juice and your car somehow cranking and sounds like wanna start, but not, and just need extra boost. Now, most of the cars needing boost are in one or more of those Mal conditions I outlined. So, no, don't go for this.

I spent hours and hours last couple of days on having one of these. So, I have narrowed it down to

Gooloo GT4000s, 4000amp, and 28600 mah battery, for 130 on Amazon and Walmart right now, GT series has newer features such as lcd display etc. (GT4000, without the s, has some warming feature for ultra cold climate and is around 200) this high capacity is worth it for peace of mind

Gooloo GP4000, is almost the same above but without the LCD feature and some less whistles, is 110 on Walmart and Amazon.

Yesper yjs40 with 4120Amp but less mah battery than gooloo has also good rating, and only 90 on Walmart, 150 on Amazon

I can not begin how much contradictions, and flawed reviews I have found, nothing consistent. But, that's what I have picked lesser of all evils and on lower end price with high Amp and mah battery. I am torn between gooloo gt4000s for 130 (extra 20 over gp model may be worth ot for newer improved features) and yesper with around 4.7/4.8 user ratings. If you find something, please add. But don't go for lower than 3000amp on Lithium starters and always look for higher mah batteries as a general rule.

Alternatively, the acid lead batteries JNC660 from clore on Walmart is about a good one but is old style, heavy and bulky.
On Amazon, 2 variations for Googloo GT4000 seriers, what are the differences between GT4000S and GT4000s?

I have a couple years old Noco like this that can still jump start a 4.6L V8 but only with Boost mode activate. Without Boost activation, it wouldn't start anything - including a twin cylinder lawn tractor, weird.
Nice. Lexus GX 460?

I noticed that. It was an error and is now removed. The model is just GT4000s, doesn't matter capital s or not. GT4000s is 130 on Amazon and Walmart. The other GT4000(S or s) that was listed on Amazon as 199.99 is not there and I believe it was just GT4000 without s, the one with preheating feature for extreme cold climate. I received GT4000s from. Walmart today, and it's heavy with 77% charge already. Keeping fingers crossed with that one.

I do not think the 4000 model with preheating feature is 70 dollar more any worth it. Where I live it occasionally goes with windchill only sometimes below -4 degree. If you are not in constant such brutal climate, I would go without worrying about the "preheating" feature. If any cold snap dawns on you in winter, then you may just keep it at home and not in your cold car for it to be ready when you might need it.

This is not a good jump starter. Watch this video and you will understand why.

Go with the Gooloo GT1500 or the Gooloo GP2000. Either should be sufficient enough to start V4-V8 engines.

This one is great for V6 engines. I was able to start my V8 by manual override. Just got the V8 one also. Great investment. Everyone should have one, only complaint is the micro usb 🙄

This is a garbage charger. Every noco device I've purchased looks good, but is unreliable, has poor customer / warranty support, and performs worse and is much more expensive than their competition. Don't get me started on their proprietary cable connections.

Don't overpay for this and buy one of the recommended models from the project farm YouTube video.

Whatever you buy should charge from USB C, for ease of use / higher charging power / future proofing, instead of microUSB.

I've since purchased the gooloo brand for myself / family. I do keep the noco around to let people borrow it, but even with regular charging, the batteries are garbage and the unit doesn't have enough power to start anything unless you use boost and the car battery can't be completely dead.

The only thing this jumpstarter reliably works on is a weak generator or lawnmower battery. If it's dead, you're out of luck.

How exactly would it fry your starter?

It applies power to the battery, which the starter would then draw from, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how a jump pack would then fry your starter?

You can fry your starter by providing 24v or by trying to start your engine without letting it rest.

Second this. Every NOCO product I've had hasn't lived up to the premium the brand requires. Chargers, jumpers, bad experiences and returns with both. Might just be me, but I don't think so.

1000 amps isn't too much and Noco is always overpriced. I've got a topvision 2200 amp one i got on amazon (it's $70 right now, so cheaper than this), and i've jump started 8 cylinder generators with it no problem. No hesitation with it ever and it holds a charge really well. I'd recommend that long before this Noco one. Project farm did a good review on youtube of these things and the topvision did really well on it. That's what made me try them out and it's been well worth it.

100% agree. I researched YouTube & Reddit and many users came to the same conclusion, that the Noco GB40 is overpriced & underperforms. My car battery was intermittently dying for the past two weeks and I couldn't get it to the shop right away. So I used my Gooloo GT1500 for the meantime and it started my car up everytime on the first attempt.

There's no need to buy these lithium batteries. End run the entire charge issue and buy a capacitor charger that has no batteries. Brand name is Autowit on Amazon for $80.

Even on sale this is still in the price range of much better jump boxes.

I bought a Hulkman Alpha 85 on Amazon for $100 back in October and it's leagues better than this for only $25 more. I haven't had issues with it losing power sitting unused for over a month, and its started multiple cars with fully dead batteries.

I'd definitely recommend spending an extra $25+ and getting a higher end jumper box.

$103 on Newegg right now.
https://www.newegg.com/p/0MD-0669-00001

These don't come with a case so I spent $35 for their overpriced case, but damn is it a heavy duty quality case I don't regret purchasing.
