$40 was the release price for the 4k version.

I have these on the TVs mainly for mirroring the Quest 2 so everyone can play along with Among Us VR.

However keep in mind that if you use it for this purpose, ethernet is going to be your best bet. And to get ethernet on this, it takes a USB C hub WITH ethernet and WITH 20+ watt pass through charging.

This will smooth out all your streaming and casting, but it does create something of a mess behind the TV.

The processors are different. 4K runs 4x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1.91 GHz and HD runs
4x ARM Cortex-A35 @ 1.2 GHz. 4K is faster, but that's not the whole picture. The HD's processor is newer and has AV1 codec support, which is more efficient than H265.

nice, so does it control tv power and volume like the Roku? I do like the screenshots of the interface and it looks like it shows multiple streaming services in a single menu which is nice.
Yep, it controls the TV power and volume, but that's about it. It's not going to control other TV functions like a full-blown universal remote, as it's a very minimalistic design. I actually really like that small form factor with just the essentials, but some would prefer a bigger remote with more functionality.

And yeah, it has a nice interface as well (of course, a matter of personal preference). I prefer the ChromeCast over the Apple TV (and I use an iPhone and iPads, not android devices.). I find that I rarely actually cast from my devices any more and use it mostly as a stand-alone now.

I'm seeing people mentioning slowness and running out of memory... I haven't experienced either of those issues with my Chromecast. Its speed to me is not blazing fast but sufficient. I have about 20 apps installed on the CC (and probably use about 5 or 6 of them most of the time,) the largest of which is Netflix at only 153 MB. Maybe some people have installed other larger apps that I'm not using. Also just for reference, I have a stable wireless connection in the room which averages 100 Mbps. Maybe that helps.

Tip: One thing I did is turn off Chromecast's auto-playing trailers, mostly because I find those annoying plus they waste bandwidth. (under Settings / Accounts / your account name)
See if that helps with menu response times.

I also turn off auto-play trailers in all apps that have them (Netflix, Amazon, etc.)

Can you load peacock on chromecast? And, what are the major differences between Roku and Chromecast?

Yes I have Peacock installed.

Rather than just displaying a grid of apps, Chromecast aggregates shows & movies from all the services you subscribe to on its home screen.

Did anyone have a problem with the remote not working, I don't know if there are several gens on this but I got the very first one and the remote has stopped working?
Is the light on the remote continuously blinking? If so, it's likely lost its connection to the CC and needs to be re-paired. If that's the case, easy fix, let me know. Gotta run for now.

i know its not apple to apple completely,

but how does chromecast now days compare to 2021-2022 Apple TV 4k?

i love how slim and compact the early gen chromecast is and it still work up to this date for my old tv, i owned around 3 ATV4k and i don't mind cheaper alternative if they work just as good

Does anyone have information on this working with the Plex app and H265 HDR stuff? I know my Roku does not work with certain formats and supposedly this is better.

Surely this must be better than Xfinity's horrible X1 box.
