That being said not a bad deal if you're not super serious about golf and want something new.

Right? I'm a 10-rounds-per year golfer, have broke 90 a few times in my life, and my favorite club is my 4i (@ 190 yds.)
They are old Pings, though, so I don't know about the loft "renaming" thing.

For those who don't spend much time on the course, even an unfitted set of clubs that contains hybrids would make the round so much more enjoyable.

Aside from that, my opinion was that 4h was easier to hit than a 4i, but it looks like anecdotal data [independentgolfreviews.com] says otherwise. I think that would strengthen the concept that golf is such a unique game that every golfer's bag will comprise of different clubs that will allow them to shoot their very best. For me personally, I am a 13hc and my bag is a 3w, 4h, 5i+ (I don't hit driver). Works great when I can hit my 3w 250 down the middle every time and I don't play on courses longer than 6500. My 4h goes 200 carry also with blistering accuracy vs. my 4i which is less than that.

They hit it once in a range, then goes oh that's my yardage.
I don't think anything wrong with throwing a hybrid in a beginner set.
