Everybody and their mothers think they need stiff flex… close to half the people who are using stiff should be on regs, some xstiff. Plus every brands stiffs and regulars are different so getting fit is a good idea if you're investing in a set, or else there is a good chance you're gonna keep buying sets until you find something that suits you. Get fit, buy once cry once, and have a set you can prob use for a decade… hell even some tour pros are using irons from 5-6 years ago.

That being said not a bad deal if you're not super serious about golf and want something new.

"I don't understand that sets seem to be going away from a 4i and now even a 5i? How bad to you have to be that you can't hit a 5i? I carry Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 4i-SW. I guess this has a gap wedge…."

Right? I'm a 10-rounds-per year golfer, have broke 90 a few times in my life, and my favorite club is my 4i (@ 190 yds.)
They are old Pings, though, so I don't know about the loft "renaming" thing.

The crowd this set is marketing at is lucky to make consistent contact. Most can utlizie more loft than they think. Unless your shooting 80 or less, I prefer to hit a 3 hybrid over my 4 iron 95% of the time, especially off the deck. Most recreational golfers can easily get away with driver, 3 wood, 3-4 hybrid, 5 - PW, folks think you need a full set of pro level blades 3-AW, but end up shooting 100+ every time, rather getting lessons. Clubs are like 10-20% of the equation. Unless your a decent golfer who can actually utilize additional clubs, your better off getting some lessons every time.

I totally agree with this. It's tough to watch (and personally experience as a newer golfer some years ago) the pain of seeing recreational golfers try to hit 3,4, or even 5 irons when a hybrid will be a much better club in hand.

For those who don't spend much time on the course, even an unfitted set of clubs that contains hybrids would make the round so much more enjoyable.

Lofts have grown stronger year over year; that's how marketing can claim longer yardage distances for each advancing edition. Not particularly an innovative concept as all brands do this.

Aside from that, my opinion was that 4h was easier to hit than a 4i, but it looks like anecdotal data [independentgolfreviews.com] says otherwise. I think that would strengthen the concept that golf is such a unique game that every golfer's bag will comprise of different clubs that will allow them to shoot their very best. For me personally, I am a 13hc and my bag is a 3w, 4h, 5i+ (I don't hit driver). Works great when I can hit my 3w 250 down the middle every time and I don't play on courses longer than 6500. My 4h goes 200 carry also with blistering accuracy vs. my 4i which is less than that.

Then he would specify which brand and model of the shaft

This prob come with strong loft so the 6i is like the 4i from 20 yrs ago. So if you hit it well you got the distance covered, then why not go with a easier hybrid club.

I'm more consistent/accurate with my irons. And I guess I don't practice enough with the 4H that I do have. I just feel more comfortable looking down at the same type of club head when on the fairways.

I mean most of the golfers don't hit the distance they think they are hitting anyway.
They hit it once in a range, then goes oh that's my yardage. LMAO

I don't think anything wrong with throwing a hybrid in a beginner set.
