I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

iPhone 11 retail price for 1 is $499.99 from any location that sells it. But Metro is offering to give it for free if you port your line over from a different carrier that's not associated with T-Mobile (check carriers for details). You can open lines from some carriers for very cheap.

IMPORTANT
Some sales associate will try to attach an extra fee to make their commission. It should only be $60 for 1 line or 2 for $90 and a $20 activation fee per device.

Possibly available at authorized retailers too? Or corporate stores only?

Have an authorized Metro store here but no corporate stores within 200 miles… would love an 11 to tide me over until the better iPhone deals drop later in the year.
Authorized retailers may not honor it since they can change prices of devices to what they want. One near me tried charging double the price.

So the reason they are hesitant on selling to anyone is because if you cancel within a month, they won't make any money off that commission and try to meet their quota with the extra fees and accessories. Plus, you are not obligated to buy the accessories, you could just say no. On top of that, they use ID to keep track whether you've taken advantage of a promo recently, but their verification system is not good. It's never denied my ID and I've used it numerous times in a short time period. Plus, it's supposed to be $60+$30 plan.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. You need to have the device WITH service for 6 months consecutively to get it unlocked. I read the fine print AND tried.
My 2 androids unlocked after 6 months with only having the 1st month of service. Maybe it's an iphone issue?

I m also terrified to go metro store considering stores around me are authorized stores only. That said, even with the bullshit fees upto $60,it's a good deal with $20 activation fee.
I did this deal (same conditions but discount was only 450 so device cost was 50 instead of 0) before Christmas at an authorized store. I didn't have any issues with forced add ons. One thing to be aware of is that they taxed on the full device cost before discount so the total cost was more than expected (around 160 but again that was with 50 less discount than the current deal). I had an issue with activation since the guy put in the esim IMEI instead of the one for the sim slot where the metro card goes, but was able to get it fixed with a 10 minute phone call. They wanted to charge me a reactivation fee but when I told them I should have to pay for their mistake they waived the fee without a problem. Note that I did not install the SIM card in the store since. After the first month was up I just didn't do anything (I hadn't set up autopay) and now the phone is in my drawer waiting for the 180 day unlock period to be over.

Unless something changed from last year around this time (February 2022) my 2 iPhone 11's from the metro deal unlocked around 180-190 days. I only paid for the 1 month of service on each device.

Do you mean you took the sim card out of the phone and never put it back? Could you clarify? Thx

Is tax off the $499 total or only taxes on the $60 plan?

Are you sure the phone got activated? If not, your 6 months timer hasn't started...

Read my experience at a corporate store during last year's deal and be advised.
Some corporate stores are as sleazy as authorized dealers.

I purchased two last April. You specifically have to go into a corporate store/authorized dealer in order to get this promotion/rebate. My store did not charge any additional fees and I easily declined the insurance that was offered.

I did call the store in advance to see if they even had the 11 in stock as at that time, they were in short supply.
I've read in other threads as well as in this thread how difficult it is to get the store to honor the price that they advertise in their website.

Someone already did mention in this thread the same thing that was told to me when I called their corporate stores and I called several, all said the same thing - a much higher price than what it states on the website{free with bringing your own number}.
I don't mind the higher $60 plan for 1 month for this iPhone 11 that they require you to get in store vs the 1 month $40 plan for the the Galaxy A23 that I got for free during Black Friday, there was no activation fee for online orders, and I don't mind paying the $20 activation fee in store for this iPhone 11, but adding insurance as a standard plus the tax of the retail price of the phone which is $499 according to them, no thanks.

Maybe some stores will give 1 iPhone 11 for less than $150 after all the fees, but most stores will up-sell.

Not worth the hassle in store.
