I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

This phone was automatically activated for me, which in my case was not the mistake awesome thing. I thought I would just buy this phone and put away until unlocked. Partner threw my sim away and the email says recurring payments. I can't log into website without the sim card to do verification code. As I thought this was prepaid and people had said unless you set up payments that there wouldn't be recurring payments. The email I got from them says otherwise. Kind of at a loss of what to do now.
did you give a credit card to pay for any of this?

If I'm doing these deals with these prepaid companies in store, I never give them a credit card.
Straight cash.
Sucks that they ask for your license now but always pay with cash.

So I pay the $20 activation, $60 rate for one month for a total of $80 then cancel service? Wait 180 days and unlock the phone?
Pricewise, it sounds good but how do I explain to my kid she needs to wait 180 days.

I went to Metro shop and they asked me to provide them My present carrier Account and transfer Pin number. For that, they said I have to call my carrier customer center and get the pin from them. Anyone here faced the same thing? I don't want change my present carrier, but I have google voice number. Could anyone guide me what to do now?

It still works on Wi-Fi if you have that at home. Probably most of the stuff kids these days is on apps anyway. And you could set up a Google Voice number for texting or some other free text app.

I went to 3 different ones today: 1st one said there is an extra $40 "phone activation fee" plus I have to get insurance. 2nd one said I have to sign up for a $72 a month plan. 3rd one said there are a lot of taxes on iphones, it will be like $250.

I guess the second one would have been the best deal, but I was already too angry.
We're these corporate stores? I only ask because the corp store I go to is 20 mins away, and happens to be on my way when I go see my family, but all the other corp stores are an 1hr+ away. That's in a large metropolitan area. Everything else around me are authorized dealers, that tend to make up their own rules. Did you ask WTH is $72/mo plan? I don't think Metro offers that.
