I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

Not sure why, but they insisted on it, even though it's different from what they described in their policy.
Why? Unknowledgeable moron.

Yeah, company reps tend to do that. You hear the same thing from Total / Tracphone reps about needing continuous service for 60 days, despite the fact that you don't. Lots of people in these threads have reported no need to continue service for the unlock though.

Called Metro Service. They said I need to keep the Metro service for 180 days. Or else it will not be unlocked. So the "drawer trick" won't work. Anyone has the same conversation with them?

Wow, thanks. Is there a possibility that they changed their policy these months? Then the previous ones were unlocked successfully and there's a chance this time it won't.

This was a complete waste. Every metro store has their own rules that they make up. One wants 3 months upfront payment. Other wants additional $100 to be eligible. Etc. Never ever doing deal with metro again.
I had called a different store, talked to district manager. Said he heard about me and this deal from multiple people. Confirmed I could decline all of the accessories but he wasn't getting around the tax. $130 for 1 line.

That's always a possibility but personally, I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless you start seeing a bunch of people posting on these threads that it's not working for them. There have been lots of people saying it works in previous threads over quite a long time. Worst case scenario it doesn't unlock in six months and you sell it for $100 to someone who just wants to use it as an iPod or for kids or something. Obviously, that wouldn't be ideal, but it's not some huge loss if the unexpected happens.

$110 Out the door. $60(plan)+$20(activation)+$30(tax) They would not let me use google voice or Numberbarn # to port in. I was able to port a boost number over….

The manger showed me on his computer that it would not let him port the Numberbarn #.

Paid in cash.

I am seeing: $20 activation + $60 plan + tax on the full retail value of the phone ($50).

The tax that you paid was on which amount?

The tax part seems like bullshit. Can I threaten to complain to corporate?

They didn't charge me tax since the phone was free, but they did charge me $10 for the SIM card. $90 total

They charged me tax on $499 (full) phone price. Might be because of the state I am located….
