This is the good one with the straps that latch the booster into the car seat. It prevents back injuries in an accident.

It comes with quick releases that you can tug on to release easily and a pull strap to tighten it in. I have two already and at this price I can pick up more!

This is for 4 year, 40 lb minimum, and assuming your child can seat straight.
Otherwise you better off getting the one with the removable back for 70 dollars

How does this compare to the cheaper Graco and Cosco ones? What makes this better?

I'll research on my own as well. But are you allowed to use these in plane seats? Has anyone done that?

Not necessarily for safety, but convenience of not checking them

This one has the latch built in as mentioned. You can anchor the car seat down to prevent them from flying around when not being used. Most of the cheaper ones do not include the latch straps so if the booster is not being used, it can slide around if not buckled in.

You can generally get free gate check for these after talking to the gate agent, then pick them up when you deplane. We have done that with these and it was very convenient.

You'd need to find specific language and a sticker on the seat that says it's approved for use IN planes. I don't have mine in front of me, but I doubt it's approved for use in the plane.

We've always gate checked our seats and stroller (free) and they are waiting for us by the time we get off.

Purchased two of these from Amazon this past Friday, total at $109. Just started a return request and place an order for these at Target, netting me $30 in savings.

Even with the strap it connects to both anchor points then goes to a single strap to tighten. That still allows it to slide a little.

I'm was able to find the Diono Solana 2 which uses a dual latch system so you have two independent connections to the anchor points that tighten individually. After installing it I couldn't get it to slide at all. It runs $50-55 which I was fine with for the extra piece of mind.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure if these were gate checkable since we've only ever done strollers and car seats. Looks like from google since most boosters require a shoulder belt they aren't approved for airplane use.

Hi, dad of a 5yr old that moved into booster seat recently and at one point we had 3 cars so I had Chicco and Graco, also now have both brands for booster (with backing) seats. Graco is mostly fine on a budget, but Chicco is usually built better all-around. For example the "belt" or strap mechanisms are smoother to operate and usually better designed. Chicco stuff is usually noticeably heavier than similar Graco and the padding/cushion is nicer as well. That said, Graco is perfectly fine and serviceable. I can't speak for the Cosco (Walmart/Sams brand?).

We're big Diono fans so I was looking at the Solana 2 and it looks like they have a latch and no latch version?

We have the non latch version of this that we use when traveling and it's comfortable for long distance drives. If it is to be used in a daily driver, definitely spend the extra money for the latch to keep it in place. We have a maxi cosi rodi sport high back for our daily driver.
