In case anyone cares, it's relatively simple to install 3rd party batteries. I've been running one with a much higher capacity in my v7 for years. Not sure about other models but I'm guessing it's the same.

I've had my Dyson V7 for 5 years now and the battery is still good. I did replace my boyfriend's parent's V7 battery last month with a 3rd party battery purchased off eBay for like $30 and it runs beautifully.
No, it didn't turn on when I accidentally held the button putting it on the charger.

I bought a Shark Stratos cordless recently, and I couldn't possibly justify buying a Dyson over it. I watched and read countless reviews, and went with the Shark. I thought my carpets were clean before, but it deep cleans more than I could have imagined. My carpets actually feel way softer now. Works just as good on hard floors too, and no need to change rollers. Advice to anyone: Buy a Shark Stratos if you want a cordless vacuum.
