Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

You can bootloader unlock this immediately.. I've done it after my month of service was up. I didn't root it yet though because I want to still get stock firmware updates.

Sim unlock will have to wait 180 days though.
How do you unlock the bootloader?

Just placed an order. Instead of getting the usual 'order confirmed' screen, I got a "This is the default error message" screen. But I did receive an email order confirmation, so hopefully my order went through. I agree with others, the METRO ordering process is garbage.

This is a much better case for $5 shipped on clearance:

Is that the 2022 version though?

Looks like it is. I have been eyeing this one for 7. My kids have almost identical cases to the one below for their moto g power 2021, and my kids are HARD on their phones, and the cases have kept the phones in top condition. Also, the screen protector is nice.

I guess I'll find out. It's an easy return.

It looks like the one on the manufacturer site for the 22 https://incipio.com/products/duo-...o-milan-5g

And the model number matches: MT-485-DNM

Yes, apparently the 2021 version has a much different camera setup, so it would be easy to tell from the pictures.

holy crap,

phone shows 5GUC, almost full bars, and I'm getting less than 1 mbps download speed at 3:30pm local time.

ONE mbps. in los angeles suburbs

if i disable 5G and use LTE, i get 8mbps download speed.

i sure as hell wouldn't pay $40 for phone service with this crap speed

Phone arrived today and I opened this thread to ask about the case, so thanks for the confirmation.

Received the phone & it was manufactured in Jan 2023 which wasn't expected. I thought these were old phones sitting on the shelf.

Powered it up & T-mobile was sim was no go at boot up.

Thinking if I should buy another one vs the Samsung A23 as I'm used to the Samsung triple navigation with the back button on the right.

so you have to contact Metro to cancel?
No. Your line will go off-line if you don't pay for another month.

got you, well it seems it is related to the profile (name, address) and only ordering through their support system seems to bypass this "verification" or as they suggested ship to a different address. As the ordering works like this,When you start checkout it creates a profile and as you go appends your info to it and then on the final step it tries to charge which fails with a http 400 error which says "Bad request" and goes to that stupid "contact us page" which is really the correct route as they can really place the order and process it but they say their policy changed but I kinda don't believe that.
Does it matter if we use the same credit card & last name for the 2nd device?

Ordered one device but unable to order a second one.

Weird, I just got 160 mbps download, much faster than my home wifi. In a different metro area, city around 1 million.

All the metro apps and firmware still are on it as stock and work fine. I just unlocked the bootloader on it. It isn't rooted. Theoretically, everything should still unlock fine after 180 days.. but since it hasn't passed yet, I can't confirm.

I just didn't want to be left out of not being able to unlock bootloader like on an old Samsung device when they decided to remove that option with a firmware update. (Although it seems Motorola is way more developer friendly than Samsung.)
Had the same issue with three Samsung devices. Cannot unlock the bootloader to wipe out the T Mobile firmware. Samsung also preloaded a lot of stuffs like KNOX, etc.

Yet another reason why L.A. sucks.

Greater Portland OR 5G: 195MB/s down, 3.78 up. LTE: 67 down.

FYI: T-Mobile 5G... 341 down, 8.28 up.

Someone on the Samsung thread claimed that one needs to contact Metro to turn the autopay off. Can those already activated their phone confirm this is the case ? Or you can turn it off after logging in your account ? Thanks.
