Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Just wanted to share my experience with unlocking the 2022 Moto G 5g stylus I bought from Metro. The phone did not automatically unlock after the 180 days so I called them, and they told me that the phone was not used on the activated SIM after 30 days and hence haven't met the criteria of 180 days. I bought the phone in Aug 2022 so my 180 days was up but they are being particular about the 180 days of using on the activated SIM.

What message are you getting when you try to unlock it?

Does it say "Unable to connect to host"?

If so, you need to try a different wifi.

Once you click unlock, there's another button called "permanent unlock"

I bought a Moto phone in July and a OnePlus in August and both unlocked. Both from Metro. Both only first month. Both SIMs stay in until unlocked and then removed.
needs to try different wifi at the very least...and have the original Metro sim in it.

I am a Metro customer. Does anyone know if I can I buy this phone and insert the SIM of my existing account? Someone has already asked this question and I saw two contradictory answers: one said yes, and the other said no.

Metro "needs"..lol. And with your many years in wireless sale/marketing I'm sure your opinion would be valuable to them..or not.
Facts are Apple supports their phones longer than any brand by far. I have a 6S that got another update last month and that from a phone released in 2015. Battery at 93% and built like a tank. I have a new SE2020 and a older Xr too and while I like android system a little better, these iPhones just keep rolling along. My experience with 5G is that it's not ready for prime time in many areas here in N California with dismal speeds.

Haha. You can't be serious about using an iphone 6s after 6 years as your daily driver. Sorry. I am not buying it. Nobody in their right mind would have an iphone 6s last that long as their daily driver. Battery is a measly 1810 mAh. The phone has a garbage performance battery life to begin with and buying cheap generic batteries don't really fix the problem. I have the iphone 6s and I have replaced its battery. iPhone 6s battery is known to have garbage battery life. Lets not forget how the performance diminishes over time. The phone gets slower and slower over time and new updates. It is what it is. Planned obsolescence. Nobody in their right mind is using iphone 6s so long. With the poor battery life and high cost of genuine replacement battery, it makes no sense to keep an old phone for so long. Wasting money on poor old technology when newer phones are vastly superior and can be bought with great sale. Good luck with you upgrading your phones every 5-6 years. Lets be realistic. Those small iphone batteries last forever for only you. I have the iphone 6s and iphone se 2020 as well. I traded them in. Screen is way too small to enjoy the phone. 4.7" screen is unusable.

Battery max amount doesn't mean anything. An old battery can say 93% but then completely drain dead in 6 hours with little to no use. It is battery drainage. You are assuming that the battery works perfectly fine like the first month you had it but it doesn't work that way. People aren't crazy when they tell you how terrible the batteries are with the iphone se, iphone 6, iphone 6s, iphone se 2020, etc. I had all those phones. It is what it is with 1,810 mAh battery. Common sense. Battery size matters. But you can tell me that you have awesome performance from an iphone 6s six years latter and the 6 year old tiny 1,810 mAh battery lasts days with regular use. Nobody is buying that. Performance declines with every year after with Apple phones. Apple knows what they are doing. They know people aren't using iphones for 5-6 years. People are upgrading like 1-2 years. Maybe squeeze 3 years. 5-6 years with costly Apple genuine batteries? No.

I used to watch Nick Ackerman YouTube videos where he did comparison ios system with some iphones. You can see how the phone slowed down with the later newer system updates. You could read the comments where people say "The new update made my phone much slower now.". Planned obsolescence.

Thanks, I am thinking of porting it to GV when it is about to expire to keep the number.
If you want to be 100% safe when it comes time to unlock, then keep the sim card that was shipped inside the phone when you attempt to unlock.

Can I do a factory reset on this phone after it's unlocked without having it revert to a locked phone? Or even if I do it before it's unlocked, will it prevent the phone from seeing it had been activated 6 months earlier? This is the moto g stylus 5g.

I set it up with a secondary google gmail of mine, thinking I'll most likely reset this to my husband's google acct and give it to him in 6 months as it's newer & supported for longer than his current phone. Didn't set it with his info in the first place as I thought it could easily be reset and am not certain he won't drop his current phone and need a new one before six months anyway! But then I realized I better understand if doing a factory reset later will mess things up regarding the unlock. Heck, I'm not even sure I have to do a factory reset to change it over to his google account and delete mine, but it seems like I'd need to.

If the safest route is to do a reset now and sign in on his google acct, I can do that. It is currently activated with Metro and logged into my google.
The unlock is permanent. You can also unlock the bootloader and install the stock Motorola firmware. There is very little bloatware in this phone. Simply delete those apps and the phone should be 99% stock Motorola.

Your Metro sim card should work in this Metro phone. In the remote chance that it does not work, call Metro to link your Metro sim card with this phone. Be sure to activate the phone using the ORIGINAL shipped sim card from Metro before your attempt to use the second Metro sim.

According to motorola message board, it comes with a 10 watt charger but it actually supports up to 15 watt max charging. My google pixel 6a supports up to 18 watt charging. I am using my old pixel 3a 18 watt charger. The pixel 6a never came with any charger.

On the Motorola website, it does state that it does support turbo charging. It isn't just rapid charging.
