Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Thanks I know, the discussion had already drifted to OnePlus and other phones. How did you pay $40 for N20? Go to a store? The terms seemed to imply a $60 plan and $20 activation. I guess I'm reading wrong.
I bought it online.
$40 got me the phone and one month of unlimited minutes/texts/data.
free activation

You are clearly not reading the original post properly and understanding what it says.

Not a different offer.
Same offer. Different phone. There are/were several phones to choose from.

The N20 used to have the same deal, back in November. I was tempted to get both, but only got the Moto, due to lack of Android 13, and sooner ending updates.

Not sure what part you think I'm misunderstanding. I have (and had) read OP, the Wiki, and the FAQ for this thread.

Yes, lots of phones to choose from, I count 36 (including Android and iOS). This is what I see for the N20, $50 with new number and $40 plan (online possible) or $0 with port-in and $60 plan (store visit required). $20 activation according to OP of this thread. Getting it for $0 + $40 plan + $0 activation + no store visit appeals, but it seems I am (as you say) "clearly not reading the original post properly and understanding what the original post says". That's why I asked how you got it for $40 total and no store visit.

FWIW, this is what I'm seeing for the N20:

Back in November/December both the N20 and Moto G Stylus 5g 2022 used to be $0 + $40 plan.

Then the deal got popular and both the N20 and Stylus 5g 2022 went up in early-mid January. N20 first went to $29.99, and is now $49.99.

The Stylus 5g 2022 went from $0 to $69.99 and now $0 again.

The N20 will likely come back to $0 in the future as demand fades, inventory increases, and/or it gets outdated and newer phones come out.

I created in store account 10 months ago and used service for 2 months. If I go to store, do I need to ask for a new account?

Then directed to go to a store or call, but a hold was placed on my Apple card.

I give up.

Can I NOT open a box and give it to someone new as a gift that already has a metro where I don't have to open the box and insert the SIM I just want to give the phone away as a gift and they have their own MetroCard would that work without opening the box and activating the phone?

I understand what you want to do. There's only one problem with it. Metro ties the SIM card to the IMEI of the phone. You just need to navigate around that one problem. Decouple the IMEI of this new unopened phone from the SIM, and you're golden. This does not mean physically remove SIM card from phone, since the SIM already come in an envelope in the shipping box, but more in the Metro system itself.

If you don't have that option right now for the phone you want, you will have to be patient and wait until it shows that you can buy it online.

Like an idiot I accidentally ordered the moto g pure ,but now I just wait and return it and they said I'll be sent the moto g stylus. There was no possible way to order it on the site, set up to fail from the get. Thought maybe it's cause I'm using mobile browsing, switched to my laptop and still no way to order it. Maybe that's how they limit giving it away for the 1 month service price. Anyways even though I messed up I figure at least I should recieve it, just at a later date. Only grabbed it for an emergency backup.
Oh the funny part was the customer service rep telling me the moto g pure was a better phone and at the end telling me he cooks cleans and does laundry. I clearly have a man's voice so it made me laugh at 1st then wonder wtf?
