Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Just activated my phone Friday with excellent signal and speeds. I'm going to use it through the month and let it lapse, continuing to use my Moto G Stylus 5G 2021 model with T-Mobile until the end of 6 months, and then hopefully the 2022 model will unlock so I can use it with T-Mobile. Then I'll sell the 2021 and roll on with this 2022 model.

It may have been my end but I noticed the site was really laggy when I was checking this morning. I'm hoping its not a sign of bots/scalpers snatching them up.

Has anyone been able to order anything (online) in the past few days, say from Feb 25th forward? Can't get past the technical issue, even for the very few phones which are available for online ordering.

Got the Moto G 5G (2022) around 3:30pm ET today. Received confirmation email.
I used the same email address as my first order for the OnePlus Nord N20, and it still went through. There was the usual personal identity questions; 4 of them.

If having the unlock isn't that important to you then leave it be.
I thought I read in one of these threads about this deal that T-mobile will activate it even if you don't.

Not sure if it made any difference but I used Edge and didn't run into any issues checking out.
