Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Can anyone verify if this phone support Ethernet tether hotspot via USB-C ethernet adopter? thx

I can't get hotspot to work. The $40 plan does not include hotspot tether. My laptop shows connected, no internet.
Their cheapest plan w/ hotspot is $50 according to their cust support line.
I tried USB-C and on the phone under hotspot and tethering checked USB tethering. Cannot connect to internet.

There used to be apps you could install on both phone and laptop to do this, like PDA net. Haven't tried those yet.

I can't get android NetShare app to work.

Hope this phone will hotspot using another MVNO in 6 months.

The ability to use hotspot depends on the carrier. Phone has hardware to achieve this task

Is it safe to uninstall App Selector? Seems to install a lot of unwanted games, apps, etc. Any others I should disable or uninstall? Tracfone Motos come with Device Pulse and also use a misleading system app called Mobile Services to stealth d/l trash apps with system updates.

* What about MCM?
You can delete app selector. Disable the apps and reboot. If you don't encounter any issue, then you can delete the apps after one week of use. I killed all the Google stuffs. WiFi Calling can be handy if you're indoor.

I would only delete an app if I know that I will never use that app. Disable an app is just as effective since it will not be loaded by the operating system. There are some core apps used by the operating system that cannot be disabled. Don't use ADB to remove these apps.

Wait for phone unlock before you delete Metro/T Mobile apps.

Does anyone know if the phone supports screen share or casting to Roku?
I tried but it didn't "find" my Roku device on the same Wi-Fi.

On Samsung I just select smart view and I can share my entire phone screen on my TV.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Settings\Connected Devices\Connection Preferences\Cast. There's also a SCREEN CAST drop down menu short cut pre-programmed into the phone. Slide left several times to see the icon.

You may need to install the Screen Mirroring Roku app.

Already deleted the games, shopping apps and TikTok this morning. Disabled App Selector because I didn't know if it did anything else useful. First time I've encountered MCM. A quick google search says it d/l junk too but also handles system updates?
Yeah, leaving Metro/TMobile apps until 180+ days.

TikTok wasn't on my phone from the factory. Must have sneaked into the phone via software update. No shopping apps unless you count the Google junks. I see ATT, Verizon, Sprint, T Mobile, and Metro apps with App Inspector. These apps may activate with the appropriate SIM card inserted into the phone.

Folks, I got mine yesterday and managed to activate it (just use the link from the email they sent you)

But I just realized Metro-PCS T-Mobile has a pretty bad reception in my area. I really have to depend on a Wi-FI connection.
For sure, I've checked, and according to the website, my zipcode is supported.

Anyways, I am just gonna use it for a month and wait for another 5 months!

Tried that. It doesn't "find" my Roku.
Says no device found.

Checked settings-> help with suggested to try Wi-Fi direct.
Wi-Fi direct is greyed out on the Moto.

So funny, Wi-Fi direct worked with my pixel 7.
My main reason to buy the Moto was to cast on my TV.

I setup the phone without SIM card initially and it didn't have any T-Mobile/metro apps.
Once I put the Metro sim, Facebook and TikTok showed up. I'm glad to be able to delete those two apps on the Moto

Can't delete Facebook on Samsung, only disable it.

Hotspot can work if you know how.....it does not depends on the carrier, it depends who and how to use it!

PDANet paid version works. I'm using it right now with my Metro phone tethered to my laptop on the $40 plan.
