From a supposedly T-Mobile employee on Reddit, here is the latest update (5/1/2023) on Autopay discount:
Source:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...ange_date/
The new autopay changes requiring a debit card or bank account to receive the discount goes into effect on May 18th.
EDIT: May 18th is for new and existing customers just enrolling in autopay
May 20th customers enrolled in autopay without debit card/back account/T-Mobile money will receive text messages over the next several months depending on bill cycle. They will receive a text message 30 days before their autopay discount is removed. Then a 15 day reminder, and again 3 days before. So the date for existing customers enrolled in autopay will vary from account to account.
Most reloadable cards are eligible for the autopay discount while non-reloadable are not and cannot be used for autopay.
Will update this post with more information as I get it.

T-mobile is getting hacked 1-2 times a year and received complaint from hackers that they have all info already and need more - for example bank & debit card accounts.
And T-mobile responded.
Message to customers - if you want to keep your info away from hackers - pay us $5/line
No way I will give them what they want - waiting for good deal from other carriers.
As of now I am letting them pay to Visa "per transaction" fee - I am paying $2-$5 1-2 times every day ($2 is minimum on T-mo).
If we all start doing it this way - maybe it will make them a bit less happy and affect them.

Concerned other carriers will follow, hesitant to make a move quite yet.

I've been with T-mobile for about 2 decades.. might need to start keeping my options open now.

so, now, people deal with it or start taking business elsewhere.
