That 4TB drive has a single 4 star review.

The rest are one star reviews with a two-star review thrown in.
It seems that ALL the MX500 drives now have 512MB DRAM. Whether it's the 250GB or the 4TB, they all have the same amount of DRAM.

Can't decide between this MX500 4TB and Samsung Evo 870 4TB. I could get a 4TB Mx500 and 2TB MX500 and it'd still be cheaper than Evo 4TB. 🤦 Is it really worth paying $150 (extra) to get the Evo? Thanks for your suggestions.
Considering the widespread reports of the 870 EVOs failing prematurely, I'd be inclined to avoid it.

Pretty great price for a solid storage SSD. Really wish they made these in 8TB...
Sure they do... through the magic of buying two of them and putting them in RAID-0 array.

That's because they have a new controller and don't really benefit from anything bigger. The 4tb isn't any slower than the 1tb or 2tb that guy has no idea what he's taking about.

Didn't say it was any slower, doof! The 4Tb has always had 512Mb dram. The 1/2Tb were neutered from 1/2Gb dram.

If you bought this, make sure to update the firmware first using Crucial Executive Storage. Latest firmware is M3CR046

A bit overpriced. The 4TB Teamgroup ssd is $179. Why overpay for an ssd especially when there is a massive oversupply of DRAM and NAND memory right now?
I have some teamgroup ssds, and for what they are and the price point, I can't complain. what you're looking at with Crucial is a quality brand, and the MX line is a very tried and true, high-endurance, data loss protected, almost enterprise grade ssd. (the BX line is the lower end, but still quality) I've run quite a few of the MX line in servers and even behind hardware raid controllers. They are good performing, very reliable drives. Benchmark champions they are not, but beyond bragging rights, they are plenty fast for most use cases if you're sticking with SATA or SAS vs nvme.

You are just spamming a number of ssd threads with the same comment but no links provided. Lol

For anyone who ordered this SSD from BB, did the Crucial retail box actually list its capacity as 4TB on the outside of the box?

The one I received clearly states 500GB on the outside of the box (on a sticker seemingly containing the actual model #, serial #, etc.), but there's an an overlay sticker covering up most of that first sticker, with the overlay listing UPC # 649528906472. A google search of that overlay UPC # corresponds to the 4TB model.

The overlay sticker, however, is completely covering up the model # and a good portion of the serial #, but it's only minimally covering up the 500GB capacity (which is why I can see that is says 500GB).

Other than the overlay sticker's UPC # corresponding to the 4TB model drive, there's no other indication whatsoever (on the outside retail box) that what's inside is a 4TB drive.

Instead of breaking the seal on the retail box (to see what drive is actually inside), I reached out to BB customer service with my concern. They've decided to treat it as a "wrong item received" situation and are shipping me a replacement SSD (as well as sending me a return shipping label). Guess I'll see what happens w/ the replacement.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Mine only has one sticker and says 4000GB with the same UPC # 649528906472.

Good call on contacting Best Buy for the discrepancy and glad you were able to get a replacement.

Disappointed to hear they are using QLC in the later versions of the higher capacity drives. They should have saved that for the economy line of SATA drives not the performance SATA drives, which these are supposed to be. Also concerning that they have cut back on the cache memory. Crucial used to be the gold standard, but this is kind of sad. I'll pass on their drives if they keep doing this sort of thing. Samsung and Hynix make similar drives at similar price points and usually don't play these sorts of games unless they very clearly disclose it.

Yeah, it may still have a good warranty, and they may agree to send you a new or more likely a refurbished drive when / if your QLC drive dies, but your data will still be gone not to mention the PITA of having to swap it out and restore from a backup if you have one.

I recently installed 2 of these into 2 different computers. Issues with both. ....yada yada......Windows 11 ...... yada yada
I can't even begin to describe my disgust and loathing for Win 11... Have tried it on multiple computers (stuck with it on one) and found so many bugs/errors it wasn't funny. I basically hate everything about it..... I avoid using a new computer because of the OS...

Microsoft's worst OS releases... Windows 8, Windows Bob, Windows 11 (which makes 98 and Vista with UAC look like gifts from the Gods)...

MS tries to force that shlt on us, so i went in and changed the Group Policy on a Win 10 Pro computer to prevent Win 11 from ever downloading. All my computers will be changed or I'll update the registry to prevent it. I think I'll gladly stay on Win 10 for another 10 years...
