Rare… If you need Apple GCs, this is almost as good as it gets the once or twice a year they have 15% off.

Chase has Home Depot GCs on sale right now too, btw… Kind of rare.

May be rare but isn't transferring to airline better value still?

Since the points are just dollars you could have towards your credit card statement, can someone speak in dollars? So if I have $100 worth of points(10000 points) I can buy a $100 gift card for how much?

Normally these points are completely nonsensical when it comes up using them for purchases, I.E. $100 in points gets you $85 in purchasing power. Which is why using them as a 1:1 statement credit is the only logical way to use them.

100% better value for travel. Can travel to Hawaii from the mainland for example for $130 One way in business class which is usually ~$500 each way and that's just one example of a good redemption. There's also choice hotels (1:2) where you can book a night at a hotel for $200 per night which is usually $450. Gift cards and statement credits are the worst redemptions usually but if people want to use it for that and not deal with award bookings, good for them.

When I add a gift card to cart that costs more than the points I have, it still lets me checkout with a negative balance. Anyone knows what happens when you have negative point balance?

Edit: never mind. when i actually checkout, it says not enough points.

Tried to search and can't find anything regarding Citi changing their redemption values or dates for something like that, could you please post where you saw that?

$500 each way in business class even sounds like a good deal. Definitely must be from a west coast city. My last trip to Hawaii from New York in coach was $1,000+ roundtrip

I didn't see any post about it, I just meant that they could change values at any time and rip us off after saving up points for a future redemption.Peace

Ya know, I've always read about how transferring for points was the best deal. However, any time I've tried to compare how much it would cost to pay for a flight versus use miles, it's always about the same or worse. And my understanding is that you can't even transfer directly to United Airlines, but it has to go to a partner and ends up with a valuation of 1 cent per point anyway.

Either I'm not doing something right, or the meta on best point value just doesn't work for me.

It may not be the best, but 15% off gift cards is still a good value.

There are usually better use for Thank You points than gift cards. If you travel, better value in transferring to travel partners.

There are deals to find, actually. For instance, recently there was WAW-MXP LOT flight which cost $500 but 28 000 miles RT if transferred to Kris Flyer. However, the price was $500 due to booking being for next day and if booked two weeks in advance the flight would be around $150.

I personally find transferring TY points next to useless and you can definitely find deals it's a huge PITA and takes a lot of time.

Depends which airlines you use. I'm currently waiting for Qatar to bring back the 1.3X/1.4X bonus then I'll transfer them to Qatar and on to British Airways. But plenty more (and easier) options.
