Initially I always love my neatos but always end up having issues with them. After owning 10 of them over the years not again.

Agreed…3 plus years and roborock still rocking! My neato crapped out after 2 years. LiDAR failure.

I think I've had every failure with the neatos including lidar failure. And when you pay near full price multiple times you realize how much quality matters on these. Even at $250 if it lasts 1.5 years is terrible ROI

The d8 is 199 on the neato website https://neatorobotics.com/products/neato-d8

Ive owned two d3's for 5 years and think they're great. I've had to do small repairs but its very easy to fix these, just bring up a YouTube video.

I'm pretty sure the reviews are in agreement that the D7 is better than the D8, although I'm not entirely sure why. I've read in several places that the D7 was sort of the last good unit Neato made. I have the D7, still going strong, but I read a lot of users who have had LIDAR failures.

D7 was the top of the OG Botvac range.

Don't let the numbers confuse you.

My issue with roborock is the rug performance. I have the shark AI, paid $200 and it's drastically outperforms the Neato and roborock in rug dog hair removal.

I have two of these and run them daily. They need to be cleaned often but have been great. The only issue is if the base gets moved to one side, it gets confused and will not run the floorplan

I wouldn't use these even if they were free. Totally dinged up all my furniture due to them getting stuck under it. My botvacs have been much kinder.

Anyone want a couple D5s? Ha

I believe the D8 is similar to the older D5. D7 would still be a higher end model.

I'd go read the Neato sub on Reddit. Way too many issues and the company seems to not care.

Nah, there's a clear trend of Neato failures. My D5 crapped out in a year, LIDAR failure. The thing was always getting stuck too. Never getting a Neato again.

I have a couple of D7, a Deebot (same company as Roborock) and a Samsung. The D7 doesn't have the best software but it is by far the closest to an actual vacuum. The bin is large and it goes over anything. I believe Consumer Reports rated the Neato as having the largest bins of the robot vacuums they tested. It's the only one I would recommend if you have pets in the house. I have an American Bulldog and rotate the two D7's to run every other day. The bins are always full at the end of the run. It's crazy because my house is fairly clean (although I do have kids in the house). The D7 is rated for 5,000 sq-fr. My house is 3,800 sq-ft and even now that the batteries are reaching EOL they still have no problems covering it. This is the only robot vacuum I have used that rarely gets stuck. It almost always makes it back to the charger. It can suck up almost anything but my kids have a lot of legos etc that lock up the brush. Talking of brushes, Neato offers different styles of brushes for this. I have a pet hair brush in one of them. It works really well but it also cannot handle legos or need darts. The regular brush can suck up a surprising number of nerf darts.

As far as issues go, the belt broke on the side brush for one of the D7's. It's a pita to replace and Neato doesn't sell replacement belts. I had to use an O-ring and it doesn't work as well. The software also gets flaky. Sometimes it will sit there and keep trying to turn into a wall or something. It doesn't happen very often but it has done it occasionally. I believe the latest software helped a lot. These last of the line D7's in inventory will come with a software revision that is newer than what is shown on Neato website. It might be the same as what the D10's have. My newer one has it and it seems to work alright. Now for my biggest issue, if you record a map with the D7 near doors, those doors have to be in the same open or closed position for it to run on a schedule or else it thinks it was moved. You can manually start it from the machine itself but not the app. The D7 can record two maps if you have a 2 story house. I have a single story. I haven't tried recording a second map with the doors closed to see if that would work. If you never record a map, it will run automatically on a schedule but then you won't have no-go lines or the ability to have it clean a specific area.

Basically, I would recommend this if you have a lot of carpet, rugs, kids and pets.

If your house is mostly tile, my Deebot does great on that. It's horrible on carpet but the round shape allows it to get between chair legs in the kitchen. I've since stopped using my Deebot because they kept pushing updates to the app that were screwing up the map. Now I can't even get it to complete a recording of my house. It has to go back to the charger to save the map and on its final run to record, it will go about 2 feet from the charging base and stop. It takes hours to record a map. I've tried several times and given up. Deebot Roborocks also have some crazy privacy policies. You are basically allowing the company access to the GPS location of your house, a map of your house, your WIFI credentials and access to Wi-Fi traffic. Neato does not monitor your wi-fi traffic the last I checked. Neato is also a German company while Roborocks is a Chinese company.

I hope this information help someone.
